El Dorado Maroma - 77710 Playa del Carmen

Won't be returning to this resort as it wasn't worth the cost. All of our group agreed. Liked · The food was hit or miss. Some (Lima Limon) meals were really great. Some were very sub-par. The room, spa, beaches, and "most" staff were great. Some staff... not so much! Disliked · As stated above, most food was sub par. The meals that were good (outside of Lima Limon) were paid for (romantic beach dinner, Palafitos, etc). Also mentioned above were the staff. Most were great. Some were terrible. Having to argue with reception multiple times about the same subject and overcharges made the whole stay significantly less special. This was probably my biggest issue. We paid extra for additional services, which had to be argued. Calls to booking service had to be made and proof of additional services paid for supplied in order for them to agree. Ideally, this information is communicated without the guests having to do the leg work while on vacation! Once, the proof was verified, the resort complied. Only to charge us for the same stuff we already went over with them at the beginning of the trip. Because the same people were not working, we had to start the process all over again. Once, proof was verified AGAIN, they removed the charged (sort of). They continued to up-charge, argue additional costs, and basically nickel and dime as much of that money back as possible. An example, couples massage was included in the package purchased. But only a basic couples massage. At the salon, the employee asked us if we'd like to upgrade the massage, to which we agreed. I will use pretend numbers as I don't recall the exact amounts, but let's say a basic couples massage is $600 and the upgraded massage is $800. We made the assumption that since the basic couples massage is included, we would pay the difference of $200 between the basic and the upgraded cost. Nope! They argued that we had to pay the full cost of $800 because it was different than what was included. Things like that added up to over $1200 in additional charges. Also, asking questions to staff throughout the resort would most likely get you an assortment of drastically different answers. Questions like "what restaurants are open for dinner tonight?" would get a slew of different responses. It became almost comical. Also asked one employee where Rick's Bar was so I could meet some friends who were already there. The employee told me that Rick's was closed tonight. I asked if he was sure and he responded that "he was positive." Not quite sure if that was someone who was just uninformed, messing with the gringos, or selfishly not wanting more people out partying that would make his job more difficult. Either way, I eventually found it on my own and joined my friends.

My husband and I stayed at El Dorado Maroma for a belated honeymoon, courtesy of COVID. It was our first stay at an all-inclusive resort, and El Dorado Maroma set the bar very high! The staff works tirelessly to ensure your stay is amazing. The beach was spotless, thanks to the hard-working staff doing constant beach maintenance. This is the cleanest hotel/resort I've ever stayed at. No sand anywhere inside, despite being located right on the water. All of the staff is wonderful, and they were very patient and incredibly helpful in trying to teach us some Spanish. Special shout-outs to Erik and Alejandro for getting my husband involved in beach volleyball so that I could read my book. Santiago hooked us up with a deal on a couples massage and checked in with us daily to make sure we had everything we needed. Perla and Vittorio teamed up with our massages, and we left the spa feeling like we had been reborn. Clemente kept the drinks coming and helped us with our Spanish! Sigril and Dennys at the concierge hooked us up with waverunners and dinner reservations. AND THE FOOD. Our hardest decision to make everyday was where to eat because all of the food was so amazing. Every single one of our waiters was amazing, but a special shout-out to Julian at Papito's for being the most fun! It took our shuttle about an hour, give or take additional drop-offs/pick-ups, to get to/from the Cancun airport. El Dorado Maroma was incredibly convenient for all of the excursions we went on. I could go on and on about this place, but thank you to everyone who made our honeymoon one to remember!

We recently stayed a week there, we already miss our friends that we made, the food was pretty good and the service was excellent. Wonderful beach and big enough to have fun but small enough to be relaxing. I would highly recommend staying here.

We had an absolutely fantastic time. The staff is incredibly friendly, the food is amazing, the property is beautiful and the whole experience was one of a kind. The concierge service did a great job helping us book our excursions but honestly the marina connected to the resort had most of what we wanted to do. Snorkeling over a reef and a romantic sunset catamaran ride without having to leave the resort. The events they put on are a blast so make sure to look out for what's happening every night. The honeymoon package was very romantic, we loved our candlelit dinner on the beach. I'd give the whole trip 6 stars if I could. If you go, tip generously, they'll treat you well and they deserve it anyway. Can't wait to go back!

Beach is Nice, rooms are good, bed is great, food is only ok, drinks are good. If you only want to relax and not experience Mexico and rather a US experience then it is for you. The food was for me so underwhelming for the price and that they say it is a Gourmet experience. Service was very friendly. With better food a 4 star experience. I thought about giving only 2 stars since the price does not match the experience.

Our stay at Maroma was wonderful. Our main butler, Oscar was everything you would want a butler to be. He was genuinely caring and did everything to make our stay perfect. Victor also our butler was very good too. All the staff was just so helpful and we can’t say enough good about each and every one. Thank you to all!

I don't usually write this kind of review. It's not the first time I've spent a holiday in the Caribbean, but it's the first time I've written about my experience. My best friend got married at the hotel, and it all seemed like a dream. I was honestly expecting a thousand things to go wrong and that it would have been a mistake to get married so far away, but I had to eat my words. We were greeted, each member of the wedding party, by name, not only had they taken note of our specific requirements, but they remembered them, and the room amenities were tailored to our particular specifications. The ceremony was quiet, beautiful and intimate. This hotel, and the manager, will go down in my memory as one of the most beautiful memories, as they became not only the venue and the staff who work there, but they became almost as a whole a participant in the event. It was beautiful. I have no words.

Awesome all inclusive resort. I've been to others and this was a little smaller but I enjoyed that as it was more intimate. Service was top notch, everyone super friendly from bartenders (Diego), the activities folks (Alex), and guy who helped you with beach umbrellas, chairs or daybeds (I unfortunately forgot his name). The beach here was far better than other resorts down the street. Very wide and calm plus they did a great job with seaweed clean up daily. The spa was phenomenal.
