★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I have never really given mole it's due, but I read that this place does it right, and all I know is I tried the black mole and I want to come back and try the other ones. It's very cute, very charming, I was the only one there, before dinner crowd, and my waitress was a sweetheart.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I have lived in Oaxaca for a couple years and would eat at El Escapulario 3-4 times a month. Hands down the best tortilla soup ever and the mole all of the them is out of this world!!! I just returned to Oaxaca today after being away for 1 year and as soon as I get in for the airport we went straight to El Escapulario and it didn’t disappoint!! Love this place so much!!!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fabulous food and fabulous welcome. The portions are not huge and the stews are somehow on the watery side but the flavours range from good to amazing. South Mexican home cooking taken to the next level. Completely eye-opening experience.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing food, completely different dishes than I've had anywhere else in Oaxaca. Ate a shrimp soup with catcus and egg, it was spectacular. Very relaxed family-style restaurant, even gave us a free mezcal at the end. Highly recommend it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I was quite impressed with the options of the different moles. I ordered Chiles Rellenos with Oaxaca cheese and grasshoppers because I felt adventurous. It was absolutely delicious. The texture of the crunchy grasshoppers and the salty flavor took the dish to another level. The mole sauce was very umami that I was tempted to lick the plate! ? I also had cornflour drink with amaranth which was so delicious and comforting. The pork ribs in coastal mole with giant ants was also good. The pork was tender. I didn’t taste much of the ants. So I was not sure what to expect. I will totally go back to the spot next time I visited Oaxaca city for sure!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ EXCELLENT food. Great local flavor. 6 stars just for the food. My recommendation: chapulin soup / chicken with Mango / ANY Mole / Oaxaca Chicken (spicy). Take your time, service is not that fast but it will worth it for sure.
