Santa Catarina lachatao "is one of the towns belonging to the PUEBLOS MANCOMUNADOS of the mountain range Juárez in Oaxaca, located between 2,000 and 3,200 meters above sea level, where you can observe the culture of Zapotec communities. There are 64 kms between Oaxaca city and Santa Catarina town. If you travel by public transport, you can board the community bus that departs daily at 16:00 hours from the office of Pueblos Mancomunados, located at Privada de Niño Perdido No.: N. A. Lost Child. 306, Col. Ixcotel (next to the "Bautista" gas station, on the International highway). Although tourism and logging companies "linked" to them claim to belong to the villages and help them to generate tourism and sustainable resources, the truth is that they abuse the resources of the area and the indigenous people (workshops, guided tours, etc.) for their benefit and the inhabitants live in poverty. In any case, in Santa Catarina there are many things to do, one could stay in a cabin, hike, bike, run, go horseback riding and alternate activities or just go to the lookout point and take a zip line, take pictures, walk and enjoy the landscape. Natural attractions can be visited through different routes:"Cerro del Jaguar","La Virgen" and "la Ex hacienda Minera 5 Señores"

Great ecotourism. It may be cold up in the mountains, bring a jacket/long sleeve shirt/etc. We didn't stay overnight, but it probably would have been great fun.

Beautiful setting, loved the swinging bridge, zip lining is available- $100- $200 pesos depending how far you want to go. I just wish they would advertise their prices online so you can be prepared. $60 MX per person to go up to the lookout and cross the bridge if you want. $250 MX to walk the trails with a guide (a guide is required). Nothing is free here. There's even a sign that parking is $10 but no one was collecting it.

Only an Instagram place. $50p per person. The views are found everywhere, not just here. The bridge itself looks more grand than it is in real life. We thought the bridge was going to be over a huge valley and connect two towns or at least connect something significant. No. This little bridge connects nothing but super short mini hikes. The view is nice but you get beautiful views all over this area. The bridge is maybe 40 feet above ground.

April 2022 - closed for covid. They didn't even let me enter the village. I could not drive through even, so I had to turn around and drive back to Oaxaca. Find out if it's open if you are planning on going! In Google maps the mirador said 'open' but it was not correct
