★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Maybe was the waiter, but the overall experience was below average compared to other Papalotes. On Sunday, all Papalotes have a promotion where a kid's meal is free when you pay for an adult meal and the waiter didn't mention it until I asked after the order was made. Other Papalotes'ss waiters have made recommendations about food and kid's meal to maybe get a cheaper bill, but not this time though. The food serving time was good and the taste and flavors of all meals were great too. It's a shame that the attitude of an employee can make you get back or not to a good restaurant.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great Mexican chain restaurant in Monterrey Mx. Looks like a Texas Steak House from the outside. Its located is a very safe upmarket part of Monterrey and we were very comfortable walking to and from in the dark. Great food, atmosphere and menu's in English if your Spanish is not up to speed. This is not the Mexican food we get in the US. Worth a visit if you are ever in Monterrey.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Four stars for the meal / fajita and one star for the service as they will force you to leave a tip! Plus the price in the English menu is higher than in the Spanish menu lol.
Our waiter insisted on us giving him a tip and he even cancelled our credit card transaction for leaving 0% tip lol. We were confused as we thought that tipping was not mandatory in Mexico as opposed to the U.S. We gave him the phone to let him translate the reason that we must leave a tip. He typed that if we didn’t leave him a tip, the restaurant would take that tip amount out of his salary! Don’t know if this is true or not. We insisted on not giving a tip after being forced to give a tip and not being allowed to leave our table for five minutes, he finally let us go. What an experience…

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We've been going here for a couple of years now. This particular location is small and comfortable. The staff is generally very nice, but we have had one or two who just seemed to be having a bad day. Their tacos are quite large and pretty filling. The price is reasonable and a nice atmosphere all-around.
The only complaint I would have about El Papalote is that when they have a special, they don't like you sharing your plate. They will literally charge you if you eat off your companions plate. Ridiculous, right? Also, they tend to automatically tack on a 15% gratuity, so you should always be careful and review your ticket. Although admittedly it really depends on the individual server and the manager. We always try to get the same server and leave her well over 20% because of her kind and attentive server, especially with my daughters.
