El Ray is a great option for those who want to learn about some Mayan history without committing a whole day of their vacation for an excursion out of the hotel zone. Because the plaques at El Ray are limited, I highly recommend paying for a tour guide. Ours was Carlos, he had answers to all our questions and his breadth of knowledge was evident. Our visit was about an hour, it was quiet and not at all crowded. There were quite a few iguanas hanging around the site but they were not bothersome or threatening. I highly recommend visiting the Museo Maya as part of the same outing, the two are a short drive apart and in combination will allow you to see historical architecture and artifacts. El Ray is also just down the street from El Mirador which is a beach outlook point and is a popular spot for a pictures as there is a large Cancun sign.

Decent ruins right in the Hotel Zone. Worth an hour or so visit to walk back. Lots of iguanas posing among the ruins! Less than $5ea. Decent bathrooms.

This was a beautiful site. It may be small in size but the historical significance is huge. Carlos provided an informative, personal tour. I enjoyed his anecdotes and great expanse of knowledge. If you are a visitor in Cancun, please make a visit here!

Really cool site near the hotel zone. We took the bus and it dropped us off right in front.

Cool historical attraction, cheap admission, almost nobody around, and iguanas everywhere!

Such an awesome site, definitely an overlooked gem in the Hotel Zone. Right across the road from Playa Delfines. Carlos, the tour guide, is the BEST and really knows his stuff! Stop by for a relaxing afternoon.

For $10 we had a personal guide who provided us with an amazing experience with tons of info and history of the Quintana Roo area. Also it was within walking distance of our hotel!!
