★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was here overall.
I had a pineapple and chia agua fresca.
The "salad" was the low point of the meal and it was the first course. It was served with only a lime wedge and zero salad dressing so it was just eating raw vegetables and not so much like a salad.
I had the hot oat soup which was pretty flavorful. They also had a pear and grape cold soup as an option.
Tacos suadero was my main course. The "meat" looked pretty plain and I was expecting them to be very bland but I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor. Even though they weren't wet, seems like the "meat" may have been soaked in a delicious marinade.
I was surprised that pudding for desert and an herbal tea were also included in the 80 peso price tag for this set meal which I felt was a great value, especially considering that since so many vegetarian restaurants really overcharge. You could have easily paid 300 pesos for that meal somewhere else at one of the "hip" veg restaurants.
The service was pretty attentive by an older and polite gentleman. He was not one for small talk but he was very efficient and he was very busy so I understand that.
I was also surprised that the majority of the clientele seemed to be regular Mexican folks, many of them seemingly in their 60s or 70s, and a couple of them even older than that in wheelchairs. There were also plenty of people in there 30s and 40s there but it definitely was not the young hipster crowd like you see in a lot of vegetarian restaurants. Thankfully!
Nice to find good food at a good price. I'll be back!
