Elio Al Mare - 97320 Progreso

If I could eat anywhere in the world, I would likely choose Elio Al Mare. They simply serve some of the best Italian food my husband and I have ever tried (and my husband had been in the high-end food and beverage industry for years). Plus, their location and seaside ambiance are hard to beat: with the grand glass sliders opening to the colorful Progreso sunsets blossoming in the skies over the emerald seas and slowly fading into indigo nights illuminated by the stars and the lights of the Pier; with the waves singing softly as they caress the shore and provide a perfect harmony to a wonderful selection of Italian and Mexican music; with the sea breeze kissing one's skin cooly and genly after a hot day - it is truly an indulgent dream come true! Today was our first time back at Elio's after two years, when we hadn't been able to come to Progreso due to COVID-19. I have been dreaming of the Pasta Negrita con mariscos the entire time we've been away - and can honestly say that it was exactly as delicious as I had remembered... Although we may be biased, to us, few things can rival Elio's antipastos, freshly made pastas, seafood, and Italian desserts and cappuccinos which in our experience, are always perfectly prepared and delivered with excellent service. We are so grateful for another truly wonderful evening we've been able to enjoy and share with our parents!

We took friends for their last meal in the Yucatan after praising the restaurant based on two previous visits. We we embarassed and disappeared. The salads and tiramisu were excellent. The pasta dishes were disappointing, not as hot as desired. Three main courses of 5 were served in a reasonable time. The other two were served 35 minutes later after we asked when we would get them. The server laughed heartily when I asked where our meals were and I told him bluntly that it is no laughing matter. We bought an overpriced bottle of wine. The service was non-existent. We served more of the wine ourselves. The fetuccine tasted canned and should have been refused. No reduction in the bill or oyer consideration was offered. The servers shrugged when asked why no consideration was offered for the poor food and service. Multiple requests to speak to a manager were ignored. Not worth the drive or the expense. Go somwhere else!!

While the food is good, although expensive, for some reason, you have to be careful to get a table where the chairs fit under the table legs. Or you'll be sitting too far from the table to be comfortable. Other than that, a good experience.

Wow! What a wonderful surprise. Fantastic Italian restaurant, delightful location on the beach away from the malecon. The food is sensational, service is great. Well worth the drive from Merida. Highly recommend, will go again.

Wonderful Italian restaurant with the most amazing ocean views and the ambiance of a 5 star restaurant in any major city. Only reason not 5 star is that the food is above average (very good), just not "amazing". However, the waiter staff is absolutely incredible and the views are extraordinary. You have to visit this little gem if you have a desire for some good Italian food while in Progreso.

Hand Made Fettucine and beautiful seafood. Perfectly tender octopus (pulpo). Waterfront seating. Away from the busy malecón for a relaxed meal.
