Inicialmente era pesquera. Está localizada en la carismática comunidad de la Cruz de Loreto.
Ha sido factor importante para la formación de las generaciones de jóvenes de la localidad y sus alrededores, cómo hace años era Gargantillo, plan de Ayala y Nuevo Santiago; ahora atiende sobretodo a las comunidades de Portezuelo y la propia Cruz de Loreto
Sus docentes son muy eficientes.
