★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Booked Maria Carlota as the website suggests it’s a Boutique Hotel and I wanted something quaint, quiet and relaxing. On arrival the man at the front desk was not very helpful or welcoming at all. It felt like we were interrupting his Facebook session and annoyed him. When we checked into our rooms we wanted to leave and explore Holbox immediately.. it’s not the comfortable room you’d want to relax in after a long days travel.
We knew there were no windows in the bedroom but expected more light at least. I presume the darkness is to mask the old building. I’m sure when it was launched the rooms looked and smelled wonderful and appeared “eco chic minimalist”, but now you’re left with dark, damp, dingy.
The bathroom smelled like bleach, which at least indicated it had just been cleaned, but cement walls seemed dirty, chips in the mirrors and towel railing fell apart the minute you hung a towel. Shower was hot and decent pressure- not amazing, but good for Mexico.
AC in the room was excellent and we also had a fan. No mosquitos which was a bonus too.
Cleaning staff were very pleasant and friendly, did an excellent job at making bed and cleaning bathroom, wrapping toilet in toilet paper bow and folded towels on bed each day.
Wifi was awful. Coffee shop next door was great (not overly attentive staff though). Guests at hotel were younger, back packer sort.. not really boutique hotel clientele.
Hotel was decent. I would not call it Boutique hotel and would rate it 3 stars max. Location good, bed comfortable, AC and hot water a bonus for Mexico!
Excellent stay for a night or two, I wouldn’t stay longer and wouldn’t return.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very nice accomodation (room with terrace) for Good price. We had little problem with rented bikes-bikes are very bad condition and price for all day is expensive. If you want to rent bikey, try another place to rent (usual 150 pesos per day). After explain problem with bikes, hotel refund our money. Sometimes was low hot water. Check in was possible ať 3pm - not earlier. Fridge in our room.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The single worst hotel stay of my life. I paid 7500 pesos up front for the suite. There was no water half the time, they didn’t allow any friends to the hotel even though I had a suite with a terrace. The internet was intermittent but worst of all the staff especially the lady in the front desk was the most horrible and incompetent person I’ve ever met. They didn’t let me refill a water bottle and threatened to call the police. There was noise due to building works every morning and even at the end they tried to charge a late checkout fee. I think just because Argentina has problems they don’t have to bring the problem onto clients in the most nasty and vile way ever. I am completely disgusted by this stay of 5 days and is the worst hotel out of hundreds I’ve stayed in my life. Also my first negative feedback for a hotel ever. I hope that place is shut down.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Read all the reviews. All understandable but as a resident of Playa del Carmen and have visited Holbox many times, it's not an easy place to have A perfect hotel...here the bikes get worn down fast, hot water and water pressure is not consistent, high quality good staff is incredibly hard, cochroahes and mosquitoes inevitable. This is the Caribbean. Tulum is the same but 8 x more expensive...I love Holbox and this is what you get... enjoy it...
Overall I thought the younger staff were friendly, rooms well kept, AC cool, good Showers and very clean and tidy. Only issue is some disrespectful person smoked a cigar in the room which is very difficult to remove so I understand the windows situation and based on the price of 2 double sized beds for $130 USD I feel it's worth it...

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Friendly staff and confortable room. Some rooms on ground level smell humidity and toilet might smell a bit like sewage. Apart from that everything was excellent.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had a huge problem with this booking.
Staff at recpetion was nice but no water during the whole night and morning and dogs barking all day long because locked by the guests although it s not a pet friendly hotel! but they pretend being friends of the owner as if it was a valid reason! VERY DISAPPOINTING
