"En el año 1922, Manuel Maples Arce se metió a un café. "En el establecimiento no había nadie. Pasó a otra pieza, donde sólo halló una cafetera que hervía. Se sirvió, regresó a su mesa y se tomó el café. Como nadie vino a cobrar le pagó a nadie y dejó una propina a una camarera que nunca vio. Y así fue y así regresó otras noches al café donde nunca encontró a nadie". Desde entonces el reservado lugar se llamó "El Café de Nadie" y fue la guarida del grupo estridentista. Allí el 1 de enero de 1923, Manuel Maples Arce y sus cofrades firmaron el segundo manifiesto estridentista, regido por tres cánones: "Imaginación, humor y el quehacer vital": Los estridentistas duraron poco, 1921-1927, pero hicieron el suficiente ruido como para grabarnos esta lección: En la cantina se vive en pasado y en el café se vive en futuro." -Jane Burden Morris.
Es muy lamentable que como consecuencia de la desigualdad económica en la Ciudad de México exista gente que se dedique a desmantelar los monumentos. La placa frontal que se puede apreciar en fotos del pasado fue removida recientemente.

It is very unfortunate that as a result of economic inequality in Mexico City there are people who are dedicated to dismantling the monuments. The faceplate that can be seen in photos of the past was recently removed.
