★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The lighthouse itself is not worth the trip. Currently (March 2021) you cannot climb to the top. You can climb above the outer wall but the door to the tower is locked.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice drive to Punta Allen. However take at least an SUV. Road has lots of pot holes and bumps. No gas stations there. Shops and restaurants available. Lots of mosquitoes to suck your blood. Bring mosquito repellent. Apart from that it’s worth the 2 hrs drive bumpy road. You can plan to stay overnight

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fantastic place off the beaten path! This is an abandoned lighthouse, not a real functioning one. You can climb the concrete wall on the south side of the lighthouse and find the door to the staircase on the west side of the lighthouse structure. The spiral stairs inside are intact so you can climb all the way to the top and get fantastic 360 degree views. It's well worth it! It is possible to drive all the way to the lighthouse from the town of Punta Allen. The road is narrow, bumpy, and in some parts sandy but it is drivable. Also, the last 12 kilometers before Punta Allen are REALLY bumpy. If you try to drive carefully to not jack up your rental car it will take almost one hour to drive just 12 km.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The door to this lighthouse is now locked. You can no longer enter nor make your way to the top to admire the view.
The “road” from Punta Allen to the lighthouse is narrow and sandy in places. We made it fine using scooters but I would be concerned about driving a hire car down there.
There is a small beach there to relax and enjoy a swim in the Caribbean Sea but that’s about it folks! Only go here if you’re really set on seeing the lighthouse and/or reaching the end of the road.
