World record size Yellowfin Tuna, and Marlin have been caught in Puerto Vallarta Mexico. if you do have the chance to go fishing in in PV and wan to catch big fish plan for a full day becuase in Puerto Vallarta you need to go offshore 36-50 miles in high fishing season and in off season sometimes more then 100 miles offshore. Inside the bay on day trips you can still catch Dorado, smaller tuna, jack Crevalle, and when in season Sailfish but for the record braking monster fish you need to go offshore.

We had a great time fishing aboard the Sophia the whole staff was great from start to finish. We met the crew in Nuevo Vallarta which is very convenient for us because We always stay at the Grand Velas. Captain Freddy picked us up at 7am and We headed out into the deep sea. Let me start by saying that everything on this boat was top notch from the fishing gear to the luxury cabin. We reached the fishing grounds and started trolling after about 1 hr ride out we we put the lines in the water and started fishing right away we were hooked up to our first catch of the day a Jack Crevalle which are not that big but still put up a great fight. The crew set the lines back out into the water and We started trolling again looking for the big fish and about an hour later we had another bite the deckhand Alex hooked the fish told Me it was big Sailfish and instructed Me to to sit on the fighting chair and handed Me the rod I reeled the Pacific Sailfish in about 40 minutes then the crew released it which was awesome because I do not like to kill Billfish. The rest of the day we caught 1 more Jack Crevalle and it was time to head in.
