A building part of Mexico's history. Full of murals and cultural activities. Also presents important exhibitions.

This is perhaps one the most emblematic buildings in the historical downtown of Mexico City. It was funded by the jesuits to bring education to the viceroyalty (Colonial Mexico), as the jesuit society gained economic momentum during this time the building we know today began to take shape. With the exile of the jesuits by King Charles III, the building served several purposes such as the french/american troop quarters during war time. By the time Juarez was president and his secular reforms on education the building housed the newly created "national high school" with a school curriculum based on positivism. It then formed part of the National University, now the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Currently a museum as of 1992 after restoration since it was closed to the public by the '80s.

This place is very close to the zócalo, it's beautiful with striking murals from the most famous muralists in Mexico. The building Idris is full of history, one very related to the Mexican academia, there's one room in particular that it shows all the ceremony needed when future doctors (PhD) presented their final exam.

One of the most beautiful buildings in the Centro Historico. Originally a high school, this museum has dozens of murals from Rivera and other famous Mexican artists from the 1920s to the 1940s. Exhibitions change all the time but they are usually about great topics.

December 2021. The museum is now open Thursday through Sunday. If your object in going is to see Rivera's 1st mural, La Creación, you should know that the space it resides in is currently unavailable for viewing. Its reopening date is indefinite, according to the young man handling tickets. Most of the salons in the beautiful building are closed and renovation work is going on in one of the patios. Still, the murals are visible and well marked, and there is an extensive and well documented (in Spanish) photography exhibit on the top floor (up until February I think- check the Museum website), with photos by Mexican and International photographers that Francisco Toledo collected over the years. There is also some information on the roots of Toledo's political activism over the years; and segments of a documentary film. It's an impressive show. Museum signage is pretty weak so one must ask where the entry door to the start of the exhibit salons is as the door was closed when we arrived. Entry into the exhibit space is limited to 20 people at a time but that didn't seem to be a problem on a weekday afternoon.

Worth visiting. The place is gorgeous and the murals are great. I can just imagine how lucky students were to attend school at this place.
