La tradición popular indica que desde ese lugar partieron 401 familias para poblar el norte del país en el siglo XVI; lo cierto es que a petición del virrey Luis de Velasco, una caravana salió en 1591, integrada por familias de los cuatro señoríos principales de Tlaxcala: Quiahuixtlán, Tizatlán, Ocotelulco y Tepeticpac, acompañadas de frailes, quienes fundaron lo que hoy son los estados de, Zacatecas, Jalisco, San LuisPotosí y Coahuila.
Fue intervenido por el Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia, para salvarlo de su destrucción total.
The former Convent of Santa María de las Nieves is located in the municipality of San Juan Totolac, in the state of Tlaxcala. Popular tradition indicates that from that place 401 families left to populate the north of the country in the 16th century; the truth is that at the request of Viceroy Luis de Velasco, a caravan left in 1591, composed of families of the four main manors of Tlaxcala: Quiahuixtlán, Tizatlán, Ocotelulco and Tepeticpac, accompanied by friars, who founded what are now the states of , Zacatecas, Jalisco, San LuisPotosí and Coahuila.
He was intervened by the National Institute of Anthropology and History, to save him from his total destruction.
