★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A principios del siglo XX Rafael Ortiz de la Huerta Flores, banquero fundador del Banco Mercantil de México, adquirió el terreno marcado con el número 3 de la antigua calle de Medinas, hoy República de Cuba 92.
Pero ahí edificó su lugar de morada.
Cómo resultado, durante 1904 contrató al arquitecto Manuel Gorozpe, también creador del templo de la Sagrada Familia de la colonia Roma, para que proyectara e iniciara la construcción de su casa habitación, misma que finalmente fue habitada por Ortiz de la Huerta Flores hasta 1925.
De esta forma y a lo largo de 13 años Rafael Ortiz, su fundador y los miembros de su familia habitaron esta casa, hasta que en 1938 la cedieron a la Universidad Nacional que casi de inmediato la transformó en sede de la Escuela Nacional de Economía, misma que había sido fundada 3 años antes por Enrique González Aparicio.
Con el tiempo en la que fuera conocida como la casa Ortiz de la Huerta se instalaron las escuelas nocturna de música, técnica industrial y de servicios número 50, además de la vocacional de arte; así hasta el 25 de agosto de 1988 cuando la Asociación de Ex Alumnos de la Facultad de Economía adquirió el inmueble, para que el 31 de marzo de 1989 la devolviera en comodato a la UNAM para su remodelación.
Hoy este edificio que albergó a la Antigua Escuela Nacional de Economía es ocupado por las oficinas de la Fundación UNAM y de la Asociación de Ex Alumnos de la Facultad de Economía, además de que funge como una sede del centro de enseñanza de lenguas extranjeras.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Esta es una de muchas sedes de la UNAM en donde se imparten cursos de idiomas como Inglés, francés, alemán, portugués, etc. Tienen cursos tanto para adultos como para adolecentes.
En mi opinion, esta y las demás sedes como Palacio de Autonomía, SEFI, etc. son la mejor opción para estudiar idiomas a un precio muy accesible, cada curso dura un trimestre así que hay varias fechas para presentar exámenes de colocación.
Además de todo esto, estudiar idiomas en construcciónes tan emblemáticas y con tanta historia es otra de las razones para disfrutar el aprendizaje de otra lengua.
This is one of many UNAM headquarters where language courses such as English, French, German, Portuguese, etc. are taught. They have courses for both adults and teens.
In my opinion, this and the other venues such as the Palace of Autonomy, SEFI, etc. They are the best option to study languages at a very affordable price, each course lasts one term so there are several dates to take placement exams.
Besides all this, studying languages under construction is so emblematic and with so much history is another reason to enjoy learning another language.
