The Gorditas were good, the only thing i didn't like was the bad service from the cashier she was so rude.

We went to visit the small Nombre de Dios village to see the historic town, dating back to mid 1500. Our visit coincided with lunch time. Both kind people on the street, who we asked for a good place to eat their famous gorditas, and the tourist office recommended Dona Aleja immediately. She appears to have her restaurant under renovation, and in the meantime the food is being served from a small room on the street side. Clientele varied from what seemed well-off local business people and senior administrators, to the less financially privileged. We knew gorditas from having lived in Mexico for many years before. But these were very special and served hot of the griddle. About 15 different ingredient mixes were on offer. We took six gorditas with two different cheese blends, mixed meat, egg and veggies, and a red and a green picadillo. Service is very friendly. It is certainly worth coming out of Durango for. Highly recommended.

Great food. Gorditas are delicious. This business has been in business for over 40 years. The owner Doña Aleja passed away this year 2020 but her recipes continue with her daughter/family. These gorditas are very spicy. I have been going to this place for 20 years. Enjoy.

Nombre de Dios, Durango is very well known for it's gorditas. Many years ago, tradition was that the transportation buses traveling through Durango would stop in Nombre de Dios aka La Villa and vendors would approach the buses with their canastas, (baskets) full of gorditas to sell. Eventually and like everything else, this tradition stopped. There are food stands that sell gorditas but Gorditas Dona Aleja is the go to place if you want to taste the traditional gorditas Nombre de Dios is known for. If you need a special gift or unique wrapping, Deportes Didier is the place to go. It's located on the main street right before you turn left to go to Gorditas Dona Aleja. I Highly recommend them.

call in advance to order your food, or go there and wait for about 2 hours to get some Gorditas, they just take way too long, of course they have a lot of clients but shouldn't they hire more personnel or something, for real man, they take about 2 hours on a busy day. It can also be very spicy food for some people, take it into account. Gorditas are not out of this world but yeah still good.
