I decided to update my previous review which simply highlighted that the owner and workers were rude, to include more information - The hope is that the owner and staff will use this as an opportunity to reflect on the situation and perhaps choose a different action next time for the benefit of others. Last week we just arrived in Tepoztlán for a month. We are a family of 4, two adults and two young kids aged 5 and 6. We came to 'Govinda Ram' as it references two of the names of the Hindu god and is vegetarian. When we arrived we were told they were no longer open. We were disappointed and told the staff that we will absolutely be back another time when they are open. As we were leaving my 5 year old said she needed the toilet. No one was around and based on the fact that we had come as customers and just explained we would return as customers i truly didnt think it would be an issue. My daughter went in whilst i waited outside the door. At that time the waitress came and told me in Spanish i cant use the toilet as its only for customers. My daughter at this point was mid flow! So i said ok and that i didnt know - obviously at this point there was nothing i could do. She walked off and next thing i knew the owner - a young to mid aged man approached me. He stood in front of me in such a way that i could not leave the area outside the bathroom. He spoke with an aggressive tone - almost shouting - saying that i am not allowed to use the bathroom and i have to pay. I explained i didnt know and i had no small change (which was true). He then crossed his arms and stood even more firmly as if to say 'you arent leaving'. His body language and manner of speech were extremely threatening and aggressive. My daughter came out and was standing next to me watching this man interact with us. I asked how much it was and he said 5 pesos (about 25cents). I said i only have big money and he again rudely said "yes, you give that and ill get change. He grabbed the note out of my hand, stormed off, brought me change and then walked off in a huff without saying a word. For the avoidance of any doubt, I have absolutely no problem paying to use the bathroom, nor do i think its an unreasonable ask. I will even add that I could have honored their property more by first asking to use the bathroom. I guess i incorrectly took for granted that it wouldn't be an issue. That being said when a place rests upon spiritual names and images, it is expected that the values in terms of speech and actions will deliver in accordance to the spiritual beliefs. Anything less, is simply commercialized appropriation. Im sorry to the owner that the use of his toilet caused such arisings that he felt he needed to react in such a manner. I appreciate that we all make mistakes and have bad days therefore draw no conlcusion of the outburst. I simply hope the owner and his staff can use this as an opportunity to investigate whether they are truly reflecting the essence of the teachings in their own thoughts, speech and actions as they choose to own/work in a place of sacred name.

Sattvic vegetarian food, delicious and full of high energy, I feel wonderful after eating here. If I lived closer I would eat here every day. The people who cook and serve are all very sweet. They use some of the same recipes as ISKCON temples and they also have some distinctive Mexican dishes like pozole and agua del dia. There are two dining rooms, one at the entrance and another in the back that is a covered outdoor patio, both are nice.

Utterly shocked at how rude the restaurant manager (young guy, small beard) has been when we just entered the restaurant excited to eat their food. Had the innocent expectations that a vegetarian place using the name of a Hindu lord would make an attempt to follow some minimal adherence to loving kindness or basic human politeness. So sad to see people appropriate tradition to make a buck, as well as have no basic human decency.

Great vegan options at a reasonable price! I loved the samosa and juice of the day. The atmosphere is a cool garden that is relaxing after a strenuous hike up el Tepozteco!
