R. El percloroetileno es un líquido incoloro, no inflamable que tiene un olor dulce, parecido al del éter, figura en la lista de sustancias altamente tóxicas para los seres humanos. Su penetración en el organismo es a través de la exposición respiratoria y dérmica. La exposición a corto plazo a bajos niveles puede causar mareo, embriaguez, somnolencia e irritación de los ojos, nariz, boca, garganta y vías respiratorias. Quienes padecen del corazón, hígado, riñones o pulmones podrían ser más vulnerables a los efectos nocivos del percloroetileno. En algunos países, principalmente en los Estados Unidos, su uso está siendo restringido. Incluso varios estados ya prohibieron su uso para lavado de prendas.
