A building that should be emblematic of the main city of a Municipality goes unnoticed

Very kindly and attentive to the processing of a family member, but the place is very careless. It does not look like the offices of a municipality

The city of Matías Romero, is young, it began to be populated around the year 1906. Before the beginning of the railway from Coatzacoalcos (which was called La Borra) to Salina Cruz (formerly El Morro), the place where Matías settled Romero was inhospitable; Most of it was flat, it is considered that for this reason it was dominated by the Xochiapa Plain, it was used by small ranchers as grazing for their animals. Previously it was the jurisdiction of the municipality of Santa María Petapa Juchitán, Oax. In 1885, a mixed concession of Mexicans and Americans obtained authorization to transit through the isthmus. Finally, in 1889, Porfirio Díaz ceded the concession to the Englishman Pearsons, through a highly favorable contract for the Mexicans. The authorities of the aforementioned municipalities agreed to sell them for the amount of $3,000.00. In 1901 the agreement between both parties was verified, being Samuel Rodríguez, president of Santa María Petapa and Wenceslao C. Santos of El Barrio. Once the agreement was signed, the workshop was built and also the houses for the workers, which were called "colored rooms", located where the public market is currently located. In 1906, they inaugurated the workshops, with the name of Matías Romero, honoring the great illustrious Oaxacan, Lic. Matías Romero, in that same year the town of Rincón Viejo was declared a municipality, bearing the name of Rincón Antonio. The time that the municipality lasted in that place was from 1907 to 1928. On April 21, 1950 it was declared a city.
