★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I took classes here a few years ago and had a great experience. The wonderful teacher Marta was instructive and kind and helped my Spanish greatly. The grounds are lovely and we had a nice mix of students, tho most were older than those pictured.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great school with professional staff that teach grammar while enhancing conversational skills. Instructors go beyond the call of duty to make each student's visit to SMdA a positive experience, especially if you reside in one of the three fabulous dormitory rooms. They truly care about your personal well-being A wonderful school in a fascinating town. You will definitely get your money's worth.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It's a pretty setting and the teachers and staff and everyone is friendly, but it wasn't a good fit for me. Some teachers spoke 80% of the time, even in "conversation" class. I've been to other Spanish classes where the teacher talks at most 10% of the time, allowing everyone else the opportunity to practice, and it's very helpful for me that way. But I think it's just differences in personalities, and how I personally learn best.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very good school, very helpful !
First, San Miguel de Allende is great! (which you can read about, I don’t know…everywhere!) I was doing a thorough search to figure out in what Latin American country I should enroll in Spanish classes; and stumbled across what I considered a pretty good deal at Habla Hispana. I knew I wanted to stay at least a month and I wanted the area to be fairly reasonable and (theoretically) away from the tourist traps (beaches). So stumble I did and am I infinitely grateful.
For the time I was there, Martha taught my class. She was so patient and willing to go out of her way to help us understand, especially since my brain is made of Teflon—nothing sticks. She was also incredibly helpful when it came to understanding the culture, the mix of indigenous and Spanish, and how each/both influenced the way the language is spoken today in Mexico. (I was surprised at how much that helped). I was able to improve my Spanish quite a bit; and having to speak Spanish in the area forces extra advancement.
Habla Hispana is a cozy school with small classes (they only go to 10 persons per class). Classes are 4 hours a day consisting of a couple hours of grammar and a couple of conversation. The school also has residences on the property that are really nice and comfortable. Also offered are homestays with some really terrific locals. I enjoyed it so much that I ended up extending my stay.
Angelica runs the place and is incredibly warm and helpful, plus she is the great cook that teaches a Friday afternoon cooking class (strongly recommend). Enrique (intermediate instructor) likes to get things stirred up by asking people to try their conversational skills talking about controversial subjects. Socorro teaches the beginning classes and pushes you to become comfortable speaking, even at a beginner level. Teresa is warm, patient and friendly. Each of the teachers switch off daily for the conversational portion of the classes--very helpful! Monday afternoons the school has a tour of different areas around San Miguel that also helps assist with learning Spanish.
On top of all this, the other students were very interesting and fun. You meet people from all over the world who are also attempting to figure out another language and at the same time you learn about their countries as well.
Overall, very rewarding experience and I am hoping to return.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I took private classes for 2 weeks, 3 hours per day with Martha.(1100-1400) She's a great teacher. I can't say enough good things about the school. Next time I'll probably take 2 hours per day. 3 hours is tough, especially one-on-one. You can't daydream! I like their flexible schedule. Morning, afternoon and evening classes are offered.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I love to take Spanish lessons, and have on and off for 30 years. My son and I had private lessons with Angelica, the owner of Habla Hispana Spanish Language School for only for 3 days while we were on vacation for a week in San Miguel, and I learned more in those 6 hours than I had in a month of Spanish school in another town. Her patience, skill and interest in us as people made the time fly by, but she was also great at keeping to the lesson plan and correcting us mid-sentence if we were not using Spanish correctly. In addition to being an excellent professor, she is just a wonderful, gracious and interesting person herself. The location is ideal and walking distance from anywhere in SMA. I highly recommend this school and we can return one day soon.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Spent a month in San Miguel de Allende to attend Instituto Habla Hispana. Had a fantastic experience. Started in beginner level with Angel, but moved to intermediate level with Enrique. The course was challenging but well balanced. Aside from the lessons, we discussed culture, history and the traditions of Mexico.
Angelica, the director was friendly and efficient and was open to any requests. Marta, provided local tours and is a font of knowledge. She also does online classes, which I may take in the fall to brush up on my language.
I lived with a local family which was tremendous but the residence at the school is very comfortable and spotless.
A great way to learn a language in a spectacular location.
Will book again for next winter!
