★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Had a great experience. We were in the first class section because all the club cars were full when we booked our trip. The brought several different mixed drinks made with Herradura tequila on the train to the distillery and back. The food at they distillery that I got was delicious they you may have to tell them you want the other dish that is being served if what they bring the first time doesn't look like something you would enjoy.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice experience. We take the train at station and takes almost 2 hours to arrive at amititan.
During the travel several drinks, didn't like much, are poured. Tequila shots is included ...
Hint: ask a shot while you have the drink cus it lacks alcohol...
Good food and show .
A lot of tourists, if you don't like it, don't come.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Our tour began with a very long unorganized line to check in for "1st class". Being cut in front of by other people in large groups, no staff helping, it was really frustrating.
Then when we get to our "assigned seats" there is someone already in it with the same seat number on their bracelet. The windows on the train are filthy (see photo) so don't bother taking pics of the scenery.
If you are older or have a stroller please note that there is a lot of walking on this tour and cobblestone that is unsteady. Our group had a lot of older people on it and it was very slow going and was super annoying.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Meh. Touristy beyond belief and not in a fun way. It's expensive, especially by local standards. This tour vía train and bus (yes last part by bus) goes only to Tequilera Herradura in Amatitlán, not even Amatitlán proper. This means you see only the Herradura factory and nothing else. The guide's were very nice, but I'm suspicious of how well they're treated by their employers by way they behaved. They seemed under pressure.
Instead I would strongly recommend the bus tours from the chamber of commerce to Tequila instead. They are a lot more fun and so are most of the clients. You also get to see the town of Tequila. Just my 2 cents.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fantastic tequila tour with knowledgable and passionate staff
Firstly, I did a fair bit of research into whether to go with Herradura or Jose Cuevo. Both yours leave on Saturdays only and include train rides, tours of distillery, unlimited tequila and cocktails and a mariachi/folklore show. This is why I chose Herradura and I’m glad I did:
1. Superior tequila (Herradura is in a different league to José Cuevo in my opinion and if you’re going to be drinking tequila all day then you want to drink the good stuff
2. You take the train both ways, with JC you only take it one way and the bus the other
3. 3 course lunch with all drinks etc included with Herradura, with JC you are dropped off in Tequila itself and have to find and buy your own lunch. For between 2200-2800$ MXN with both tours you should get lunch included
We went with the first class option at 2600$ MXN but actually wanted to go with Club class for 200$ MXN more, I mean £8 is not a lot when you’ve spent over £100 already. However, Club was fully booked out for a corporate event this Saturday (bad luck as it was available every other Saturday of July)
The difference between Premium, First and Club seems to be fairly subtle but it is more or less as follows:
Premium - train ride offers carriages which are a bit less spacious with no tables, a slightly less high quality lunch (arrachera instead of vacio steak)
First Class - carriages with tables, nicer interior and a better lunch. Also, the tour has considerably less people on it you don’t feel herded along as much
Club - has a sofa on the carriage and I think they play games along the way, didn’t see where they were at lunch but possibly better food again though not sure
You can see full details of each carriage on Herradura’s website.
The day includes:
-Expert tour guide
-Tour operated in English and Spanish
-Free bar: straight tequila or cocktails with Herradura tequila (coffee, orange juice, water, snacks also included)
-10am-7:30pm
-Roundtrip transfer from Guadalajara to Amatitán by train
-Tour of Hacienda Herradura including premium tequila tasting
-Mariachi and folkloric show
-Three course meal
We had so much fun on this tour. The cocktails were creative and interesting, especially on the train ride back as they were citrous or fruit based rather than milk based on the way out.
HINT: You can ask for as much tequila as you want, don’t wait to be offered it! I kept ordering additional shots of whichever variety was in the cocktail I was drinking to make it stronger as the cocktails were a little weak at times. I also asked for numerous shots of Selección Suprema throughout the day and it was provided on demand (this bottle retails at around 3,500$ a bottle and over £220 in England)
Our guides, Roxana and Priscilla, were both accommodating and passionate throughout and look after you well. A special shoutout to Priscilla who gave the English speakers a VIP tour of the hacienda with only 6 of us on it and who was incredibly friendly and upbeat. It was also lovely to hear that her entire family work at the distillery in one way or another which adds to the sense of community and family we felt at Herradura. This is a brand that invests in their people.
The only slight disappoint to a top quality day was the lunch. The starter was flautas with potato and felt a bit cheap as you can buy this on the street for under 10$ MXN and the steak with the main course was overcooked and very dry, I asked for additional salsa to improve the overall flavour. Neither of these courses looked any better than what Premium had and there should be a bigger difference for the additional cost.
Overall, this is a day you won’t forget and is fun and interesting throughout, it’s worth the money and I’d do it again!
NOTE: Herradura are based in Amatitán which is not in Tequila itself but is another small town nearby so if you’re really obsessed with going to the namesake then you’ll have to go with Jose Cuevo

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I first learned of this tour 13 years ago when I was a poor college kid. I added it to my bucket list and decided that some day when I was a grown up with a real job I would go on it. My grandmother was from Tequila, Jalisco and although I was not born in Mexico I am proud of my roots. This tour did not disappoint! I was anticipating it to be well done as the near $150 (American dollars) price tag led me to believe that it would be well produced. Everyone from start to finish was so professional and knowledgeable! My tour guide was Meche and our servers on the train were Omar and Alex. Everything from the check in process to the train ride was smooth and well organized. The drinks on the train were fantastic. The train itself felt luxurious, clean, and new. Once we got to the Herradura Distillery our tour guide Meche took a group of us maybe 16 people onto the property. Our tour was in Spanish and there were other guides who were conducting the tour in English. The distillery was in a beautiful Hacienda. Throughout the tour I gained a deeper appreciation for the process of tequila distilling. As someone who studied Biochemistry and is committed to sustainability the explained scientific process was fascinating as was the commitment that Herradura as a brand to produce a high quality product made with the best of tradition, integrity, and advances in science. There were parts of the tour which we were explicitly asked not to take pictures but for the most part there were many beautiful areas where we were encouraged to take pictures. The tequila taste testing was lovely and educational. The three course meal and entertainment were next level! Our waiters continued to bring us specialty tequila drinks and shots as we requested them. The other guests on the tour were from all over Mexico, the USA, and Europe. There wasn't a "gift shop"; however, local Mexican artisans were allowed to sell their goods which made for really lively mementos. The prices were very reasonable. I must note that if you're someone who is coming from outside of Mexico you will find different varieties of tequila that you may not find in your country. If you have the opportunity to buy a bottle and take it home, you can buy the bottle at cost at the distillery. The Herradura Distillery even offers bottle engraving. The return trip was also wonderful and thankfully more low key. Everyone seemed happy and relaxed. The entire trip started from 10am (check in) until nearly 8pm (arrival at train station).

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Overall amazing experience. Everything about this is literally perfect. I would recommend everyone to book their club class totally worth the experience. All the cocktails that they freshly prepare on board are great and even their tequila straight up tastes great too. Never been a fan of Tequila but this experience changed me and now I like Tequila. Highly recommend this.
