Hertz is scam! They said no car available that I booked and paid. And ask me to pay extra $150 per day to get a car! All our trip and plans are canceled, we was supposed to drive this car to another city!

This is a SCAM!!! Once you get to the office they tell you they don’t have what you booked and they try to impose a higher rate for a bigger vehicle. The representative is super nice and patient, but he knows is a total scam

beware! you won't get the car you booked here. I booked an automatic car online (which costs more than a manual car in the same category) but when we got there they claimed they only had manual available in that category and we could upgrade to another category (which was a lot more expensive of course) to get an automatic. I showed them my confirmation email but they said that I'm not entitled to what I booked, just "a similar car." we ended up just taking the manual which turned out to be a really basic old car that didn't even have automatic locks. I usually like Hertz but in Mexico I've only had bad experiences (avoid the one at Cancun airport too).

I would give zero stars to this location but google won't let me. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!!! THEY ARE SCAM ARTISTS!@! Regardless of the type of car you rent, they will tell you that they don't have it available and you have to upgrade or not get a car! They did this to me and made me pay an extra $45 per day to get a Jeep which was the only car they had, according to their lying a##es. The manager said to be careful and shut off the radio bc the battery dies otherwise. The car battery was faulty (and not bc of the radio) and this vehicle stopped dead on me several times while driving cross state. A very dangerous situation. I called the emergency hotline and they didn't offer any help except to tell me to return the car (a dead car). I ended up at a mechanic and paid out of pocket to fix their battery issue. Upon returning the vehicle, the woman pretended to not speak English and wouldn't offer me any resolution or compensation for renting me a car that broke down. It's not my job to fix Hertz's cars while I'm on vacation. This could've turned out horribly as the car would literally go dead in the middle of driving and steering would lock up. I'm trying to resolve through Hertz corporate but they are saying that this is a licensed Hertz location. They should be shut down. DON'T RENT FROM HERE.

Zero stars. Do not rent from this company ever. Beware booked 30 days in advance with a family of 5 just to arrive and be told no cars are available and were given no noticifation. One of the busiest weeks in Mexico and no companies have any cars. Thanks Hert for ruining our vacation. Hertz just lost my business permanently.

We reserved a small car, having been quoted around 2,700 pesos for 9 days rental on their website. In retrospect, a price this low should have made me suspicious, but I had read that renting a car in Mexico was inexpensive so I was delighted. We arrived and were told that the type of car we'd booked was unavailable, and that only a larger, more expensive model was available. They offered some kind of deal on it so that we would received full insurance at a discounted price, but my attempts to understand the specific breakdown of the costs involved were unsuccessful. We spoke with the Hertz employee for 5 or 10 minutes trying to get a clear breakdown of how much the total cost would be and what comprised it, but we couldn't make sense of it so we decided to take a minute to regroup as we felt like we were being forcibly upsold. We went over to Europcar across the street, and found the smaller car we were looking for, with a clear pricing structure. Overall a much easier and more comfortable process. Seems like we are far from the first people to experience this here, so would avoid if you can. If money isn't a particular concern for you then you will probably be fine.

I would think twice…or three or four times before renting a car in Mexico if you are from the US. My wife and I were in Tulum for a short trip two weeks ago and rented a car to drive to the ruins in Coba. We were hit by a local driver who came into our lane. I was taken to a local police station and then a jail cell to wait for them to work things out (they can do this legally in Mexico for two to three days). I was asked for a bribe of $1400. Please consider using other transportation options (like buses). I have spoken with other people who have traveled to or have lived in Mexico and have had similar stories of police asking for bribes. Please consider using buses etc. If you still decide to rent a car you are probably not covered by your US auto insurance so please get insurance. Other local drivers often don’t have insurance in Mexico. We found out these things the hard way. Take a minute and Google this stuff before making your decision. I got lucky and left with only a few cuts, scrapes and bruises. My wife has a fractured vertebrae. This is the short version of this scary story. This location takes a long time to go through the rental paperwork plus the guy who helped us charged us for things he said were free.
