★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place was such a great find. Absolutely adorable little restaurant with delicious fresh food that looked stunning and tasted heavenly.
We had the little sopes, the guacamole, the crema de chile poblano and the tostada with octopus accompanied by fresh home made fruit sodas.
The owners were absolutely wonderful. If you are in SMA and want to eat fresh and homely food, this is your place.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a lovely little garden restaurant in an alleyway of artsy folksy shops. It’s run by a pair of chefs from Acapulco, Paco and Dani. The menu is intriguing and required explanations but it was worth it! I had pork belly in green mole sauce and fresh made guacamole. Delish! It was very pleasant to be under the ficus trees , eating refined indigenous cuisine. Will be back!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ignore th fact that this lively little spot is buried in a small mall at the edge of town, because it was the best food we had in San Miguel by a step or two. The level of attention to detail is amazing. It shows in the garnishes and the taste of the food (and the amazing, friendly, and solicitous service). The best salsa I’ve ever had (smoky, spicy, and so complex) came when we asked for it to accompany the wonderfully fresh guacamole with its beautiful tiny tomato and onion garnish. The octopus tostada was lovely; wonderfully sauced. The pork belly mole dish was also amazing. And everything was so, so fresh! The owners - an absolutely lovely couple - hail from Acapulco, and you can absolutely tell that they love what they do. Just amazing. ‘Cooking with love’, indeed. It’s not fancy. But it’s amazing.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hierba Santa is one of the best hidden gems in San Miguel de Allende. We had the pleasure to meet Daniela, one of Hierba Santa’s owners and chefs, and told us about her love for making incredible Guerrero-type food. She is an extremely talented chef full of passion. The mole with chicatanas is absolutely out of this world (see photo) and might be the only place (in the world?) where you can get it. If you visit SMA or live here, you definitely have to have at least one meal in Hierba Santa. Congrats to Daniela and her boyfriend for creating such a wonderful place!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This little gem of a find off the beaten path is one of those pleasant surprises one only finds when ambling in an area a/ no real destination. The culmination of our perusing a row of shops (La Plaza de Hacienda La Aurora) which itself starts at the end of an alley, this is a wonderful find. A relaxing sitting, with a cool breeze and ficus trees shading patrons even in the noon sun. We just missed breakfast, which sounded amazing, but lunch did not disappoint ?. Clever and pleasing presentation of traditional dishes, along with a nice selection of frescas, mixed drinks, coffee, soda, and cerveza. A great spot to relax and enjoy a wonderful meal with good people.

Get there early or late in the afternoon when crowds are gone.
