Hospiten Riviera Maya - 77710 Playa del Carmen

WARNING: EXPENSIVE AF. This is a tourist trap. Go to "General Hospital of Playa del Carmen" instead - less modern, less fancy but WAY cheaper, and comparable level of service. Read some of the reviews for that hospital. Here at Hospiten, a general doctor's evaluation costs USD250, and a specialist 350. I brought my friend with emergency chest pain (could be acid reflux, could be heart problems), and they wouldn't take him in without an initial 1000 (one thousand) USD deposit. They don't have direct billing arrangements with popular international primary health insurance providers like Aetna (who stopped paying them), or IMG. You need to pay upfront out of pocket, submit the paperwork, and wait for reimbursement. Other than that, the hospital looked pretty clean and modern inside (outside there's a bunch of construction), and the front-desk staff and the doctor spoke English. The doctor seemed knowledgeable. They ran bloodwork screening for heart conditions and the results came back within an hour. The nurse was very slow, but hey, it was 5AM. Worth the 5x - 10x price tag vs. the General Hospital? You decide.

Developed very high blood pressure and was advise to go an emergency room. This hospital was wonderful. I did have travel health insurance but had to cover the cost. They could not find anything wrong and gave me some medicine to lower blood pressure. I never had high blood pressure before and was assured I would be ok.

I could not be more pleased with this hospital. I arrived last night around midnight with severe abdominal cramping which I assumed was a miscarriage. It turned out that I had ovarian torsion. The team had me in surgery within 2 hours. The staff was incredibly compassionate, caring and kind. I felt completely safe and well taken care of by Dr Jennifer Landa and team. Thank you ?? They were able to successfully perform the surgery without harming the baby. I’m forever grateful ???? For those writing negative reviews about the cost. This is a foreign country and you (and I) are foreigners. It is our responsibility to ensure proper medical coverage should be in place. Ours unfortunately expired 4 days before this incident and we forgot to renew leaving us with a $30,000USD bill. But that is not the hospital’s fault. That is my own and it doesn’t negate the remarkable knowledge and expertise that these professionals have. Even with the bill, I’m soo happy that I ended up here. Do not come here they asked for 5000 US dollars as a deposit (in small print non refundable), wouldn’t tell me how much it would cost for medication and also told me I’d need to get discharged by a specialist but would say when he would be in. Depending on how long he would be would determine how much more I’d be charged! All I needed was an iv with fluids and medication as I was severely dehydrated and couldn’t stand up. Zero ratings. I’ll advise you to go to the playmed hospital, they won’t rip you off and I was seen within 15 mins!

I have been in this hospital for a bad cough for roughly 2 days now, it takes forever for anything to get done and I have not been given even a basic pain medication for the chest pain I am experiencing. Do not come here if your resort says you should!! It is obviously a tourist trap instead of an actual hospital. My room is almost the size of my resort room for which I am paying 300 usd a night, do not come here if you have the slightest value for money.

Avoid this tourist trap! Front desk told me $400 for pedestrians consultation Charged $ 800 right after When I realised they charged twice more front desk lady said it’s by the accident! Then they told me $400 for doctors consultation $500 for hospitalisation And $4500(U.S. dollar) if he needs to stay overnight! I took a 15$ taxi to a general hospital of playa del carmen Paid 120 pesos (6.5$) for hospitalisation Then for 2 days my son got all necessary attention from really professional doctors only couple of those spoke English but it was enough to understand what they want and if I needed something they translated it for me! Total bill for 2 days was $134 US dollars Easy math

Very good experience. The doctor was professional and was very clear. The emergency room visit was less than 900pesos. The rest required additional medical attention. But since it was not an emergency we opted to go elsewhere because of the high cost. But overall my first experience here was positive and showed promises. Hopefully I will never need to go back there. ?

My wife & I had to come to the Hospiten while on vacation and we were extremely impressed all around. Yes they’ll hit you with a $1,000-$1,500 USD deposit but when it’s all said & done they only charge for the services provided (which for a private clinic didn’t end up being bad at all) and are so helpful with lining up insurance claims. The staff was absolutely incredible from the front desk to the doctors. As Canadian citizens with a medical scare, it was so reassuring to go to a place with this level of professionalism. Highly recommend, especially to travellers with uncertainty in these situations
