One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in. The place is always super clean and the staff is very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. It’s close to trendy neighborhoods and some of the best food in the city (especially if you’re vegan/vegetarian). The beds are probably the most comfortable I’ve experienced in a hostel. The showers are always hot, and the bathrooms always well taken care of. Overall, Hostal Hidalgo is top notch, and I wish all hostels were as affordable and nice as this one.

Getting around people that are smart and intelligently traveling was very fun more research to follow

First of all I can say that the staff is very nice but there are deficiencies that have to be noted. First of all, GDL is on lockdown and red light on, and just one staff at the reception was wearing a mask sometimes. All of the others weren’t, we even suggested that they should wear one as there were a lot of signs around the hotel but they didn’t care, very irresponsible. Second, the toilets were not cleaned often and you could perceive pee odors at the men’s one. Third, when we arrived at the room there was just a sheet and no pillow cover, fortunately we had our own pillows. And at last, when we went to take a shower, there was pipe smell at the showers. A lot of things to improve, hope they can take note about them.

We really enjoyed the week we stayed in a private room! Friendly staff and a great vibe overall. Great location as well!

Location is close to the centre, but on the really loud street (cars driving even at night). We stayed in private room with bathroom. Bathroom was clean, sleeping bedding and towels was not really clean. Bed for 2 , but pretty small, was not comfortable to sleep. View from the bed/room pretty cool :) at day time in room is tooo hot (no air-condition only fan). Oh and also to get to the room you pass a terrace (nice one) but from the kitchen of restaurant downstairs (or somewhere else), on terrace goes a pipe with smoke. Smoke was so strong that i thought it's a fire in a hostel ? and partly this smell goes into the room too...

We stayed a total of 6 nights at the hostal. First off, the reception workers were nice and helpful. When getting to our room it looked pretty clean the first nights. On our last two nights the sheet covers were yellow and they looked sort of dirty. The women's bathroom had a very strange pipe smell coming from the faucet. In general it was a good experience but the reason I would not go back to the hostal is because for our last two days of our stay we had food stolen from the fridge. We decided to cook our own meals in the community kitchen and a whole litter of milk was taken. We found the milk bottle in the trash can that night. We had bought a bag of mushrooms and an onion to cook with at night and when we got to the hostal they were gone. We looked everywhere in the fridge and it had magically vanished. Then we decided to make quesadillas and we bought a pack of cheese slices which had a couple of slices left and when we went back the next day the package was empty and they still had the audacity to leave the empty cheese package in the fridge. I think is very disrespect to take other people's food but we sadly suspect it was the locals who live in the hostal or the regulars there. You can't even buy food and put it in the fridge because someone will take it.

Clean rooms, well priced and really nice staff! My only complaint was that the rooms were poorly insulated so it was quite noisy and stuffy.

This hostel has everything a bad hostel must have. Cramped double rooms, dirty rooms, dirty toilets, thin doors and in our particular case a room with a smashed window. So you could enjoy the cold every night and hear the noise of the noisy street to fall asleep. A solution could not be offered in our case, of course - but at this point we would like to thank them again for having the idea to offer rooms with broken windows and to cover them with a curtain when handing them over.
