Hostel Ka'beh Cancun - 77500 Cancún

I booked a room for two nights and regardless of my booking confirmation i arrive after a long flight in the middle.of the night and get.told we have no room free. The young lady in the reception really misplaced her attitude, no apologies or anything and when I asked what I shall do she kept yelling to me: don't talk to me like that. She send me to another hostel, pretending she talked to the manager and that he has a room available, upon arrival there he is surprised and says everything is booked out. So I end up at night with no room, no cash and no internet , as I went straight from the airport to the hostel on Cancuns streets. I was lucky I talked to strangers and they offered me to stay at their place. This is absolutely unacceptable! You could at least say sorry, but instead all I got was an arrogant attitude

This used to be a very popular, great and well designed hostel but that was pre 2016 when we first stayed there. Sure the dorm rooms were a bit cramped and the lockers were tiny lockers in the reception area. Sometimes small hostels like these build and change the layout of the hostel thinking they're making it better but in this case with this hostel it was better when we first stayed there in 2015. The staff were very nice and the experience was much better back then. Unfortunately for them they built a tiny pool in the front and the whole atmosphere of the hostel changed to a super cramped outdoor feeling. In this case their "improvements and redesign" actually made the hostel worse off. With so many choices of hostels, hotels, group home Airbnb's and other places to stay in Cancun why would you want to stay in an extremely cramped and enclosed hostel. Hopefully they read this review with an open mind and learn from it.

Great staff! Very helpful and they have 5G internet. The only problem is the AC doesn't work in the bedroom and the beds have plastic bags under the sheets. Really good if you want 4hours of sleep.

After reading through tons of individual reviews (which we should have done in the first place but didn’t have time), it seems that since COVID this place may be under new management/ownership or something. Nothing else would explain the discrepancy between the lovely photos and glowing reviews from several years ago vs. the total dumpster fire we just encountered. Walked into our private room and discovered: - a powerful musty mildew smell - wood furniture covered in mold. Not just a few spots, I mean completely covered like old bread. Never seen that before, didn’t know it was possible actually. - towels and sheets covered in countless mystery stains - a dysfunctional air conditioner that sounded exactly like a video game machine gun sound effect - a mattress that was completely wrapped in grocery store plastic wrap. Also never seen that before. Our first thought was bedbugs, but now I’m thinking maybe it is related to the mold? - aaaand my personal favorite, the pièce de résistance, we pulled back the pillowcase to discover that the pillows themselves were completely covered in black mold! *chefs kiss* Needless to say, shortly after stepping into that little private box of hell we turned around and walked right back out again. Never to return, except maybe in nightmares.

The hostel does not appear as in the pictures at all. It was dirty with eaten food all around and cigarette buts, the room didn’t have a window and was moldy. There were no hot water in the showers… Over all we didn’t enjoy the stay

My wife asked me to book Selina Downtown which is similar to this one, but Selina was fully booked for yesterday morning. I looked up Google Map. This hotel is rated 4.8, but I didn't read the induvial reviews due to rush. I booked the most expensive private suite with bathroom for my wife and my daughter. The check-in time was 3pm. My wife tried checked in, but the room won't be ready till 5 or 6pm. Finally she got the room at 6pm. The room is one block away from their front desk. It seems they expanded. It is nothing close to the double bed of the photos on Google Map. It is a very small room with double-decker iron bed. Very minimum. only bed sheet and pillow. No soap or towels. My wife has to RENT towels for shower. So I looked at the review. All the good review were before pandemic. Most reviews in this year are bad. For the same price we paid, we can get a good private suite ( 165 sq-ft ) in Selina. If you are backpacker, the dorm of this hostel may be good option, but for private room. Spend your $ somewhere else. Good luck to this hotel.

I was attacked in the bar of the hostel and then kicked out with my belongings, wallet cash and cards left at the hotel bar. When I returned my items had been stollen, staff assured me the police had been called and my attacker had been removed from the premises, said attacker then returned and proceeded to be served alcohol and attacked me a second time. Staff were very helpful up until this point!

Lonely planet budget choice since ‘09 but a lot must have been changed since then. We booked a room for 4 people, the room was super overpriced, but we booked anyway because the advertisement stated we would get free breakfast, dinner and beers. We did not get those. Check-in was terrible because the bartender was also the host for the hostel. The passports (for later payments) are kept in a plastic box under the bar. Lots of insects and not clean. Beds were good, but again, simple &overpriced. Pictures very old, doesn’t look like that anymore. Hostel doesn’t reply to emails.
