Hotel Akalki - 77900 Xul-Ha

I felt in love with this place, the food and the workers. The service it's excellent the waiters, front desk staff and at the kitchen are extremely helpful. They'll do anything it takes to make your stay an epic experience.

Extremely disappointed with the services and overall experience we had at Akalki resort. For starters the hotel is highly over priced when taking into account the facilities and services offered. More specifically: 1) The rooms themselves need to be upgraded, we understand the concept of an ecological hotel, however this is not synonymous with dirty, old, and poorly taken care of ; which is how I would describe the linens, towels and overall state of the room. 2) The room itself is very dimly lit and should you choose to turn on the lights they emit a white LED gas station like light which is the opposite of relaxing. 3) We were provided with a jug of water each day, however the water was dirty and unfiltered. 4) They did not replenish bath amenities (soap, conditioner, shampoo, etc.) we had to request and then at that point they simply supplied one small bottle. We stayed a total of 5 days so that was simply not enough. 5) The rooms were not properly cross ventilated, therefore turned into a sauna at night. 6) the food was expensive (40 USD pp w/o alcohol) and average at best. Overall I think for over 300 USD per night services and facilities were lacking, and need to be seriously revamped and updated. The positives include the lagoon which was beautiful and easily accessible.

Just had lunch here but would totally stay. The food, atmosphere, and service were perfect.

We didn’t sleep in this hotel. We went because of the restaurant and an activity planned there. The food in the restaurant was so delicious! The best taco I ever ate! As a vegan, I really enjoyed the vegan options! I recommend the Jamaica Taco! The crispness and flavor was like I never tasted. The view is amazing. It was so relaxing. I wish we had stayed there at least 2 nights, it felt magical the few hours we were there.

Terrible customer service experience. We travel with our documented service animal all over the world. Arrived to this place and they not only had ZERO criteria to comprehend that a documented service animal is not the same as pet ( mascota). Their emphasis was in the amount of gators in the water around the hotel, which makes this place unsafe to everyone, not only dogs. Their no sense response was to leave my dog in the car at all times, basically to die in the heat :/ The owner didn’t even have the courtesy to respond to my email, customer service starts with leadership from the top. So no surprise why the staff was basically way too far from understanding customer service. There are other amazing places in the area, where they truly value customers and you will have an amazing- hassle free experience.

We had an amazing weekend in Akalki. Everything was perfect. The service, the food, the beds, surrounded by very peaceful and blessed atmosphere of the lagoon. My best part was a yoga class with Colibrí teacher. She han an amazing & powerful energy that I could practice yoga for hours. Depply connection and Inter peace at all times. Hope to be back soon.

Akalki is a magical and amazing place. Definitely a hidden gem! We stayed at a cabin in front of the lagoon and our time there was unforgettable. Food at the restaurant was good but would’ve liked more choices specially for breakfast. We did yoga with Colibrí in the mornings and that was such an amazing experience. Her energy and teaching is like no other. I’ve had many yoga classes in the past and nothing compares to Colibri’s yoga classes. She’s also a massage therapist at Akalki. I Highly, highly recommend her. I had the best therapeutic massage with her. Her knowledge and energy is impressive. She will guide you and recommend what type of massage your body needs. She also does water therapy which we will try next time. Overall our experience there was wonderful and thanks to Colibrí we will be returning again soon.

Bacalar Lagoon in itself is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. The water is so clear and the colors are breathtaking. When you arrive at Akal Ki you will immediately leave your stress at the gate. A well paved drive will take you directly through the jungle and onto the water...The restaurant is on the water and a number of the bungalows are directly on the water with walk out to your own private front porch and steps to swim right off your own private hut. While on a 2 week tour of the southern area of QR I can testify that NO OTHER place has the direct water bungalows and there is nothing like the breeze coming through the room and the lovely setting that the owner has created. There is a huge over the water platform with hammocks and lounge chairs for additional areas of mediation and peace! There is NOWHERE else that is as peaceful as Akal Ki. The food is some of the best I have had while in Mexico as well (ORDER THE SWEET CHERRY TOPPED FILET currently 18.00 USA) The drive from Chetamul airport was super easy and it was very easy to find just off 307....A taxi is simple if you do not want to drive or go anywhere...wifi was sufficient for TEAMS and what work was needed but trust me...this is a place you want to unplug! I can't say enough about the place. The gardens, the yoga temple that was built for a retreat center, hiking trails and location to downtown Bacalar if you want to go experience the artsy town and music...The bungalows currently do not have AC however the breeze has been amazing and the over the bed fan and side bed fan was so relaxing...my understanding is the owners are adding some units but honestly it is not needed and DO NOT let that keep you from booking. Pack light and enjoy pure Heaven on earth! Emails on occasion would come back from the reception as not recieved. DO NOT GIVE UP. Book a boat ride, book a romantic dinner for ultimate privacy and book the Temazcal Cermony to detox and give you the best sleep EVER! 5 STAR - Clean, beautiful, peaceful, clarity, reset, breathe, LOVE, LIVE! @itizlizward Elizabeth Ward USA, NC
