Hotel Casa Hormiga Bacalar - 77930 Bacalar

We had an incredible time at Casa Hormiga. The staff was so wonderful and helpful. Our room was clean. The grounds, architecture and vegetation were breathtaking. My Casa Ritual experience was magical and everything I needed.

Gorgeous hotel - beautiful design and thoughtful details in the main building and common areas such as the yoga den (the yoga was excellent - fantastic Italian teacher), the honesty bar and the board games/books. The pool and treatment area are peaceful and the treatments are very good. The room itself was nice but had a few glitches - only three hangers to put clothes on; no iron or hair dryer; bed was very small. Staff were generally polite and helpful but sometimes a little clueless - for example they said they would arrange a taxi for us from the airport but they didn’t respond to our follow up emails asking them to confirm they had in fact booked one, and there was no taxi for us (didn’t matter - we got a collectivo in the end). When we told them about it on arrival they just shrugged and didn’t look into it further. We also flagged that the cleaners hadn’t come to the room one of the days but again they didn’t really say anything in response. Usually you’d be offered a drink on the house or something by way of apology. Breakfast is good but the evening restaurant could be improved - atmosphere and quality of food a little lacking.

Hotel Casa Hormiga was like a beautiful dream. The attention to detail, service, aesthetics, and beauty is top notch. Our interactions with Jessica, Roman, Rafaela, Nickey, Candy, the Jorges and Daniel were so pleasant and they made us feel like we were at home. We absolutely loved everything about our stay and look forward to returning.

We truly enjoyed our vacation at this hotel. The entire staff is excellent and really knows as well as practice amazing customer service. There was nothing we missed. Being in a conscious, quiet & serene environment means a lot to us. We were able to relax and recuperate. We will for sure come back to Casa Hormiga. Absolutely lovely hotel. And by far, the best food in town! Don’t just have the complementary breakfast, ask for a menu and order everything! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Very accommodating staff, lots of spa services and activities they will plan for you, especially for such a small hotel. Beautiful pool as well. We were very pleased!

Hotel is beautiful and very modern. Air Conditioned Rooms are very nice and hotel restaurant/bar/nest area is fantastic! Breakfasts are amazing and we loved having Nikki as our most helpful server. Keep in mind that tipping the staff separately is a kind and much appreciated gesture as there is no way to add tips to meal or drink service that they bill directly to your room. We found out that some of the staff work for no salary but are supplied an apartment in lieu of pay so show your appreciation for their hard work. The hotel is located close to but not on the water as Bacalar doesn't really have beaches - only Pier's owned by beach club/restaurants. The current public Pier is small but it looks like it is being expanded. The hotel front desk staff is very nice but not as helpful at offering up tips about the area. For instance - you WILL absolutely need to bring pesos as small local vendors & grocery stores do not take any foreign currency or American dollars. It would have been helpful to know that beforehand as it was difficult to locate the one and only bank in town - which we struggled to find ourselves and had long lines to get in. Bacalar is a great place to immerse yourself in the language & culture so be ready to practice and primarily speak Spanish.

A beautiful hotel and a real oasis after a long drive. Rooms are beautifully designed (incl AC and a fan) and hot showers. There are two lovely pools, yoga classes Fri - Sun (included), breakfast, an honesty bar area, a great library with books to read and board games to play. Everything you need for a very chilled out experience. Staff are friendly and helpful too. Would recommend!

Casa Hormiga is a great hotel, a serene and beautiful experience. We felt very welcomed and relaxed. The restaurant was also a nice surprise, although we thought that the alcohol options and brands they had could be more selective and compatible with the proposal of the place. The only defect, if we can call it that, is that there is no division between the bathroom and the bedroom. There is no privacy and when using the bathroom at night we always wake each other up.
