About Hotel Riu Emerald Bay

Opening of the first hotel

In November 1953, Juan Riu Masmitja and his wife Maria Bertran Espigule acquired, with their son Luis Riu Bertran, the San Francisco hotel, a small 80-bed establishment located in Playa de Palma (Mallorca, Spain). This was to be the first hotel of many in the future of the international hotel chain. The 60s saw a real tourist boom in the Balearic Islands, which Luis Riu Bertran actively contributed to through his partnership with the German tour operator, Dr. Tigges (known as TUI since 1968). Following the consolidation of charter operations between Germany and Mallorca in the summer months, Luis Riu went one step further in strengthening the development of tourism in the Balearic Islands, by also promoting Mallorca as a winter destination. During the 60s and 70s, the company underwent significant expansion in the Balearic Islands, consolidating its business partnerships all the while. In 1976, Riu Hotels S.A. was established along with TUI (Touristik Union International) in order to build new hotels.

We stayed there the elevators are brutal. Took forever to get up or down. Water slides in the kids area broken on day 2 of our stay and remained broken. My 2yr old was wanting to play there. Service was good. Room always clean. Food was OK. We stayed here January 2020 my original review was deleted. Not sure if I would come back here.

Great resort, staff is constantly cleaning. Found the buffets had more than enough variety as we are not fussy eaters. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The only reason for giving only 4 stars is, we felt the entertainment was lacking a little bit. And elevators can be an issue at busy times. We would definitely stay here in the future.

Has a nice beach with at least 5 pools that they are close to the beach ? Whole rooms have ocean views and you can enjoy on the balcony of your room. Each room has a minibar of some beverages like gin, vodka, tequila and rum... And Beer in the fridge ? We had a great time with our friends in this hotel. I strongly recommend it to have a good vacation.

Went here for 7 nights with my buddies and had just an okay time. The positives were that the location was beautiful and the facilities were in decent condition. But there were more negatives than positives on this trip. For one, I felt like me and my friends were constantly unwanted by guests and staff. I found this hard to understand as we weren't rowdy or obnoxious. One night I stepped on some glass that hadn't been cleaned up at one of the shows and ended up getting cut pretty badly. There was a lot of blood and when I asked the staff for assistance or a place that I could receive First-Aid they just looked at me and said: "No help." I asked five different staff for any type of assitance and didn't receive any. I actually felt like a nuisance to them. We were warned for making too much noise one night when we had met some Mexicans and made friends with them. They singled us out of the crowd as the culprits and we felt targeted as we were the minority in the group. The food was passable at best. The best food was the Mexican fare at Tabasco. Great location, but not enough activities unless you're looking to suntan and drink the entire trip. You'll definitely want to book some excursions into town if you want to enjoy your trip more.

Day 7 of 14 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Riu Emerald Bay Mazatlan Mexico I must say I am impressed one of the most amazing beaches on the Pacific ocean there are more than five pools here including a water slide There's one of the bartenders that comes to your table and will bring you drinks you don't even have to leave your chair the staff here are very professional and well-mannered. For lunch There's a complete buffet that the food is wow open between the time By the pool within reach There is french fries Hamburgers Hot dogs Tacos Of course all the other drinks and alcohol beverages from the bar right next to the snakes area a very peaceful environment a great place to relax and wind down while listening to the Pacific Ocean's waves 6:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. There are the following restaurants and buffets Bamboo restaurant Amazing selection of Asian foods very authentic amazing restaurant food is very likable better then many decisions that I have been to Tabasco Mexican restaurant The food here is amazing everything is fresh well prepared with love and care A true example of the Mexican culture and hospitality Italian buffet You have chefs behind grills making you fresh food right in front of you A lot of other desserts and variety of food to choose from General buffet The general buffet is a mixture of all different types of food everything made with love and care always clean utensils everything taste great. I don't know how much more I can say about this resort everybody here is dedicated to their jobs work very hard amazing faces to see lots of smiles I highly recommend this place for anybody that's trying to get away from everyday life If I had to compare this resort from one out of 10 I would say a 10 out of 10 I have been given all the amenities that I expected out of all this hotel in the last 7 days I highly recommend it amazing environment to be in

My first time to Mexico was here and it was awesome!!! Went with a buddy over my 24th birthday and St Patrick’s day. Came back 8 years later with another friend for my second stay, was equally as good. Food, drinks, rooms, everything was great. Now this November I am being my wife and 5 year old for two weeks. I am sure we will love it again

Stayed here for 4 days in mid March, and any complaints about food or staff just seem to be too picky! So many choices with breakfast and dinner buffets that you could go several days without repeating anything? We also ate at the reservation Mexican place, Tabasco, and although good, liked the buffets better. Two open for breakfast and dinner and another open for lunch, snacks. Burgers and tacos available by the pools, too. Drinks at the pools were ok, but the best drinks in our opinion, were in the bar just off the lobby. (not the sports bar) Bartenders there were rock stars! Staff also very helpful. We needed to move our airport shuttle time (which was free, by the way, and over 40 minutes away!) and Sara at the desk jumped right on the phone and took care of it for us. We spent a day shopping in central Mazatlan, and saw hotel employee Efrain getting on our bus and he recognized us, then he made it a point to say something to us later when he saw us at the resort! Excellent pools and a BIG beach area! All rooms are ocean view! I would highly recommend this location and plan to come back!

The hotel accommodations are quite nice. The rooms are clean as is the hotel in general. The food is where there's a real drop off. I understand it can be difficult to feed the sheer number of guests that pass through daily, so when the standard restaurant was below average in terms of quality, I assumed that the reservation only restaurants would be a step up, but the one we ate at, Bamboo, was almost the identical food and presentation we were pretty disappointed. The staff was pretty hit or miss. We had a wonderful server, Nancy, who was incredibly attentive and had a great personality. The people working the pool area running the games were also enjoyable. The rest of the staff was pretty non-interactive or downright rude. Anyway, I hope that this can temper some expectations. The hotel and amenities are above average, the service I'd say is average and the food is average to below average.
