Este Templo Católico Parroquial está encomendado al Patrocinio o Intercesión de San Juan Bautista. Por lo que el cintillo debería de decir: "... de San Juan Bautista". Incluso; el Nombre de la Parroquia; llamado así eclesiásticamente, en lugar de municipio se llama: Parroquia de San Juan Bautista. De hecho; de él, es la imagen que se ubica en la parte central del Presbiterio. ¿Por qué se dedicó este lugar a San Juan Bautista? ... Porque según cuentan la historia; Fray Juan de Zumárraga visitó este lugar un 24 de Junio del año 1531 y por ello erigió esta Parroquia en honor de San Juan Bautista. Sólo que celebró Misa en la parte donde está ahora el Bautisterio del Convento. Ahí estuvo la Primera Capilla de Sultepec.
