Fue el lugar donde hace 60 millones de años cayó el meteorito que exterminó a los dinosaurios lo que lermitió el auge de los mamíferos y del ser humano. Hay un monumento que lo conmemora. Pueblo completamente patinable, con una urbanización muy curiosa de casas de colores a la entrada del pueblo. Visitad el cementerio local, muy interesante. No confundir con Chickchulub puerto a unos 20 km, en el que hay playa y ambiente más marinero The interesting thing about this town of Chickchulub is symbolic. Construcción muy vieja y sencilla, sin embargo tiene unos retablos bien elaborados, d tamaño mas bien pequeño, es el punto de reunión de la comunidad católica, a un costado está el parque del aerolito, en el que hay unas placas alusivas al meteorito que cayó en esa región y que dió paso a que se formará en golfo de México, este impacto fue el responsable, según los científicos, de la extinción de los dinosaurios. El sitio en que hoy se levanta el pueblo de Chicxulub "cuerno de venado prendido", perteneció "en la época prehispánica"- a la provincia de Ceh-Pech, sin embargo, no se tienen registros de algún asentamiento anterior a la llegada de los españoles. Se desconoce la fecha en que fue fundado el pueblo de Chicxulub, pero se ha podido establecer que ya se encontraba habitado en 1549.
