En 1937 las aguas residuales y contaminadas que provenían de las presas en la mina Dos Estrellas ? ? arrasaron con lo que era conocido como el barrio del Carmen, lo que ocasionó la destrucción del lugar y muerte de muchas personas. Su torre fue lo único que sobrevive de este ? triste acontecimiento originado por el hombre y por supuesto por las fuertes lluvias que acontecieron en esos tiempos. Hay baños y una pequeña tienda. The history of that place is very interesting, you can take photos and there are bathrooms that do not charge upon entering and you can even have a picnic right there. There are toilets and a small store.

Miles de toneladas de lodo contaminado con cianuro fueron desplazados, cubriendo la totalidad del barrio del Carmen, de la misma cabecera municipal Tlalpujahua, la iglesia del Carmen fue sepultada, sobreviviendo únicamente la torre campanario; el saldo final fue un aproximado de 183 personas fallecidas. Miguel Madrigal cita en los datos históricos de Tlalpujahua lo siguiente: "una copiosa lluvia que duró toda la noche arrullaba en una falsa seguridad a la mayor parte de sus habitantes ... desde el mineral se dio la voz de alarma comunicando los desplazamientos de las presas que tuvieron lugar de menor a mayor ímpetu y magnitud a las seis de la tarde y a las once de la noche. Pero esa voz no llegó, por desgracia, a oídos de muchos; y a ninguno pareció tan inminente y mortal el riesgo..."¹ El reporte del Sindicato de Mineros, sección 33 y 40 de El Oro, Estado de México, refiere lo siguiente: "...aparecen las superficies de las partes desplazadas [...]; el volumen calculado para la parte más grande dio un resultado aproximado de 4.360 mil toneladas y para la parte de menor magnitud, un resultado de 80 mil toneladas"(2). -Los pueblos de México. Thousands of tons of cyanide-contaminated mud were displaced, covering the entire Carmen neighborhood, in the Tlalpujahua municipal seat itself. The Carmen church was buried, with only the bell tower surviving; the final balance was approximately 183 people deceased. Miguel Madrigal cites the following in the historical data of Tlalpujahua: "a copious rain that lasted all night lulled most of its inhabitants into false security... from the ore the voice of alarm was raised, communicating the displacement of the dams that took place from lesser to greater impetus and magnitude at six in the afternoon and at eleven at night. But that voice did not, unfortunately, reach the ears of many; the risk seemed so imminent and deadly to none... Muy bonito lugar lleno de naturaleza e historia. In reality it is not sunken, what is observed is the floor of the church (not the ceiling) and where the statue of the angel is, it is where the altar of the temple was and on the opposite side of the tower there was an entrance arch. Very nice place full of nature and history.
