Cars are very dangerous to drive. No seat belts, our car was falling apart. We had an issue with he car, tried to contact the company but they were not picking up and then blocked our number.

Frank’s team is very professional and prompt. When we had a dead battery across the island, his staff member came immediately to assist us. Our island experience was enhanced by cruising in our Jeep!

Our jeep broked after some kilometers, aprox 12km. The jeep is in very bad conditions, for example: corrosion (full of holes), electric and battery problems, dirty, no seatbelts, no good tires, lights and so on. They give us another jeep after 1 hour and this was in better conditions but not too much, oil odor was common when we drove it. After that they insulted us because they said that we must paid 50mx pesos for gas but we lost one hour on the road waiting answers for out first problem. Go to another company.

I have rented cars in many places in the world and the Jeep Wrangler I rented here (blue colour) was probably the worst car ever given to me - and this is not an exaggeration! Up to the point where I was concerned about my personal safety on the road. The rental price was probably fair ($75 incl. insurance) compared to the competition. I took the car in good faith, but only after a few kilometres I realised that it is a piece ready for the junk yard. The mounting of the rear mirror was broken, so that it couldn’t be tilted adequately, the handbrake was fully broken, the driver‘s seat was loose and didn’t give any support when turning. The steering wheel was so out of sync with the wheels that you had to steer more than 15cm in each direction to get a response from the wheels. The engine was loud, roaring and I could smell it inside when accelerating. The brakes were not very reactive, compared to modern standards. There was no indication in the car whether the lights were on or off. All signage on the levers was gone and the dashboard didn’t have an indicator lamp. For the seat belts I would say it is highly questionable whether they would hold off the force of a collision. Finally, the suspension - I thought driving an off-road car would make it easy and enjoyable to drive over bumps. In this case the whole car would shake from left to right when driving over the smallest bump at low speed. It felt like driving a car with a broken suspension. In combination with the other defects of the car (steering, brakes, wobbly seat) it is easy for this car to get out of the driver‘s control. It is a long list of problems and in any other country with stricter rules this car would be deemed not safe to be driven on public roads. Please take this car out of your fleet before worse things happen.

Trash company. We just rented a car and once we brought the vehicle back they stated there was a scratch on the side door (good thing we took pictures of the car before renting it) we showed the guy the pictures and said we dis not need to worry about it. Then we ask for a receipt stating that everything was fine with the car and this person denied us one saying that the person who rented us was a guy from the street who uses the name of this company but he was not responsible of any charges that might show up in our credit card. Long story short the guy who “rented” us this car never showed up and we end up cancelling our credit card just in case. Trash como y go somewhere else.

Our Airbnb host helped us rent a car through Frankie. Frankie brought the car and paperwork to our residence and picked the car up at the end of our trip. We rented a Toyota Camry for 2-3 days and didn't have any issues (and the air conditioning worked perfectly, which was much appreciated).

Stay away from this place! It's practically a robbery disguised as a car rental service. We paid 1,600 pesos (US$80) for a jeep rental on The Playa Del Carmen side- the price for a day was reasonable based on what they showed us we would get on a photograph. Nothing could be further from the truth. When we arrived they did a hard sell on the insurance (an additional 40 usd if you fall for it) - we did not. The typical "leave a deposit to cover for damages" ensued. When they brought the car around we were looking at a sloppy painted blue jeep with over 131k miles on it, no air conditioning ( well all the AC buttons were missing - so hard to tell), dirty and rusty on the inside, the seats were filled with bumps and the upholstery was like a bad joke. The engine was extemely noisy, the brakes did not work very well, the clutch and shifts cranked horribly and the handbrake did not work at all ( so a couple of times when we parking the car started to roll away or roll towards us. They gave us the car with barely a 1\4 of a tank (of which they promptly took many photographs of to make sure we delivered it with the same level of gas). The suspension of the car was terrible since the car swerved on its own on the highway so we had to overseer to keep it in check. The engine overheated and the heat emanated inside the jeep and we all felt we were inside an oven despite the sea. Breeze coming in from our 40mph speed. When we delivered the car and complained about all these points they just shrugged it off, did not offer even an apology and obviously they did not offer a partial refund or full refund - they should have paid us to take this piece of junk out of its misery. This is a business of ill- repute and it is this kind of tourist abuse which gives Mexican tourism a bad rep. From reading other reviews I see that the owner also takes no responsibility and responds by denying that the unit was rented from his place. I'm attaching photos of the contract and the unit to eliminate any doubt.

I have been traveling to Cozumel for over 30 years and rented cars from a variety of car rental places. I have used Isla Bonita Car Rentals for quite a few years now after some issues with pricing with a competitor. Isla Bonita Car Rentals are reliable and have very, very good pricing. Prices are straight forward with insurance included. No last minute price changes. I’ve rented everything from economy to jeeps and minivans from Isla Bonita, all without a single problem. Frankie will make arrangements to have someone meet for the vehicle drop off and pickup. Use the what’s app and you have immediate text message or phone contact. It makes the experience so much better. Highly recommend this local company.
