Being in Patzcuaro they always recommend this tour to the little town. It is to spend a couple of hours. There is not a great variety of food or restaurants here like in Patzcuaro, but the view is beautiful and the boats leave every hour. Going up to the Jose Maria Morelos monument there is a little Tiki place where they sell prepared drinks.

You can get to the island from the Patzcuaro pier, it costs $ 100 round trip and the trip lasts one hour, arriving on the island you can eat or drink something at the stalls or while you go up to the viewpoint, on the island is the church, the Cemetery, the climb is a bit heavy but not impossible ?? at the viewpoint they charge 10 to pass and there is the monument to which you can also climb, plus food and entertainment stalls such as the dance of the old men.

I liked getting to know the island, to get here you take a boat and from there the adventure begins, it is a place where you are going to walk a lot, you have to be comfortable ? quite an experience climbing many steps until you reach the Morelos monument and still inside, climb up to the fist of the statue, there is the viewpoint is worth it!
Along the way there is a variety of food, a place to rest, buy souvenirs and at affordable prices!
The lake is very dirty and neglected could be better

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Get there early. We parked at the embarcadero in Patzcuaro (20 pesos) at 9:00 AM (not busy at all). Paid 70 pesos for a round trip ticket, got on a boat and were going underway in a few minutes. The trip to Janitzio is about 30 minutes that includes a little show by the local “fishermen” (it’s just for show). There are a dozen or so locals “fishing” in a traditional way as you approach the island, then you tip ‘em. Why not, you get could pics that they posed for you. Enjoy a slow walk up the stairs (use the ones to the left in order to see the cemetery and a good lookout spot) through the town past vendors and countless michelada stands up to the statue at the top (10 pesos to enter). Listen to the local residents (Purepechas) speaking in their native tongue. Be respectful as many of them are still getting used to how the movie, Coco, has changed their lives. Not All of them want so many tourists around all the time. We got back on a return boat at 1:00 PM. By then, the island was getting pretty saturated with tourists and we were glad to have gotten there early. Next time, we plan to spend the night on the island in one of several tiny hotels so that we can really take it all in.
