Una amplia área habitada por numerosa población que se comprendía en el perímetro lacustre ribereña sucesivamente ocupada por tribus de ascendencia huave, chontal parcialmente mixe y finalmente por zapoteca, que se extendía desde el actual poblado de San Cristóbal hasta el reparo y las cuevas, las faldas del cerro Guelavichi hasta las cercanías de Magdalena Guelavence, área monte rico, coadyacente en el punto donde esta asentada la ciudad de Jalapa (conocido como tres picos) como lo atestigua las construcciones del templo, casa del gobierno, casas públicas y caseríos que conformaban la población muy importante del núcleo humano que fue de capital importancia.
By very old tradition it is known that this town was founded in the year 1580 under the name of Yuuchi, ignoring the date on which its titles were issued.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Bonito lugar para visitar con un clima cálido, sobre todo en la presa Benito Juárez que es suministrada por los ríos Tequisistlán y Tehuantepec, donde al centro emergen las cúpulas de un templo Dominico del siglo XVI (16), que se puede apreciar en gran parte en temporada de sequía.
Nice place to visit with a warm climate, especially in the Benito Juárez dam that is supplied by the Tequisistlan and Tehuantepec rivers, where the domes of a 16th century Dominican temple emerge in the center, which can be seen in large part in dry season.
