★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really fun place with friendly people! We stopped by after most tourists left for Dia de Los Muertos and it was hands down one our favorite spots. The jukebox has a good selection of oldies but goodies. Swing by for mezcal and beer if you're in the area. It's a guaranteed good time.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Rip off. Do not come here. Especially if you're a tourist.
I visited this place back in November while looking for a good quality bottle of mezcal to bring home to enjoy over New Year's with friends and family. Had heard good things about Casa de Mezcal and came recommended. We sampled a few mezcals with them and settled on a bottle we all enjoyed. The price was marked up for tourists, but fine, is expected.
The first indicator something was off should have been how they wrote 'Jabali' in marker on the side of the bottle. No way of proving what mezcal it actually was until I got home. When we opened it up, it most definitely is NOT jabali. I've worked in the spirit business for a number of years and sampled numerous mezcals. 100% this is not the mezcal we enjoyed in the bar. This is a marked up GARBAGE quality espadin. Flavours are way too sharp to be a more mature maguey. Like drinking paint thinner at best. Considering pouring it down the sink it's so bad. Utter waste of €60. No one enjoyed it that sampled it.
If you're looking to purchase a bottle from here, please, take your business elsewhere. They're just looking to rip off tourists.
0 stars.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I love this place. I find it crazy kitsch and lovely at the same time. It’s such a conflict in every aspect. The murals, the ceiling, the tiles and the wood paneling all shout different things at you at once. It’s a very overwhelming place to walk into. Somehow very touristy and fun in the good way. It’s a unique place for sure.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A place to be serious with your mezcal. This is a Bar with a capital “B.” Dark, woodsy and cool. A place to go with 2 or 3 friends that enjoy mezcal without the kiddo crowd. There’s even a jukebox. Brush up on your Spanish or prepare to just go with the bartenders’s recommendation (as I did), as tourists are scarce and English is even harder to find.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A great place to try mezcal!!! We got four shots and two beers- spent the most we’ve ever spent in one outing in Mexico but it was totally worth it. We tried Tobala, Coyote, Reserva Jabali, and Madrecuishe. Madrecuishe was our fave! The ambiance was really interesting- it was either blaring Mexican music or 80’s hairmetal ? the man who served us was extremely kind and even took the time to bring us extra oranges. 5/5 for everything, definitely worth a visit if you’re in Oaxaca!
