Reality is.... lodgeing and utility services are not acceptable...very poor condition.

I stayed here for one week and it was the best hospitality I've experienced in Mexico! Gladys, the woman who owns the hostel, is a colorful, energetic eccentric soul. She was very accommodating, helpful and up for tea and a chat any day. The rooms were cosy, clean and inviting, and the kitchen was fully equipped with a refrigerator, utensils, dishes, pots/pans, filtered water and private cupboards for storing food, ect. There was also the option to eat at the big table inside the dining room or outside at the many tables in the beautiful courtyard garden. The atmosphere is peaceful here and perfect for meditation (a service offered by Gladys), yoga and reading. WIFI was strong and always running and TV and DVDs where always available to watch. The location was very central with very good cafes, markets, shops and restaurants nearby and San Cristobal is very charming. My one tip: bring warm clothes as it tends to get cold here in the mountains at night and in the early morning. I will return next year!

After a bad experience in another hostel, some nice travelers whom I met in a bar sent me over to Gladys' Hostel. My main thing was price efficiency, cleanliness, friendliness and running hot water (it's cold in the mountains) and Gladys went above and beyond to make sure my needs were met. The place was clean, smelled nice, the beds were comfortable and there was even a kitchen facility! I stayed here for 6 nights and every morning, her nice assistant, Ernest, had a complimentary breakfast ready at 9am. Wow, he makes some of the best pancakes in town!!!! I enjoyed relaxing under the sun in one of the hammocks in the garden and Gladys even offered a tour packages which I took advantage of. One morning a van picked us up and brought us to Sumidero Canyon where we taken on a boat ride and got to see wildlife and waterfalls. We returned to the hotel later that evening with the van and I must say, the day was perfectly mapped out. One another occasion, her son also booked a tour to Palenque for me -- the Maya temples and pyramids are not to miss. This mountain town has so many good vibes, good food, good company and I enjoyed my stay there

They have a very welcoming staff. It’s good value for money. We stayed there for three days and I recommend this establishment.

So first of all, the lady changed the price exactly in the moment we arrived, she said 1200 peso, then 1700. She was playing as she doesnt speak english. After all, toilet- just one, disgusting, dirty. Rooms- it is wet inside because of the leaking roof, the dog that lives inside did a pou just under the door of my room, the curtains for window was falling down. I do not recommend that place for this price, in the city there are many cheaper hostels with better conditions

Pictures are incredibly misleading to cover up the fact that the restrooms have a crazy stench with leaky pipes, the bedsheets go unchanged between stays, and the rude, alega-absorbed host is out of touch with reality. Book with caution.

Think you found a cute, well-positioned, and decent hostel? Think again! There are many hostels in downtown San Cristobal de las Casas with great hosts, prices, and levels of cleanliness. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM. Seriously, if you come across this place, make a 180 degree turn and sprint with all your will! Aside from the aforementioned issues, the WiFi is terrible, front doors open and close at random hours, and the restrooms are less than impressive with the leaky pipes and dirty surroundings. Dirty restrooms, unpleasant host, and the casual breaking of rules will be the downfall of this place. If you’re willing to put up with so much nonsense, the staff and guests are the only ones that make everything worth it. Speaking from experience, I built great connexions with some persons here that I won’t forget, but at what cost. Book at your own risk, but be warned that it’s best to keep your expectations below ground level before visiting this sty.
