La Catrina Hostel and Breakfast - 37700 San Miguel de Allende

4.5/5 based on 8 reviews

The hotel is well situated. Breakfast was good with very cheap options to make it a proper brunch. They like rules, they are printed by your beds, and on a massive poster in the main room. That includes not smoking on the outdoor double terrace. I don't get it. Only got very cold water in the shower, the tap came off when I turned it on, apparentky everyone knows. The bedroom I stayed in had 4 beds and was not very welcoming (I think they have better ones with wooden beds).

We have found this hostel to be a very helpful and friendly place to stay especially during these very trying times. The staff was most accommodating and assisted us whenever they could when we asked. We stayed here 5 days and watched many foreigners pass through. They were very attentive to disinfecting surfaces everywhere.

The rooms are nice with sturdy wooden beds, there are three private bathrooms with showers on the second floor, not sure about the first floor. The rooms have no sound isolation at all, and having the room closest to the lobby/eating area was a big issue in the mornings. There is two rooftops for you to sit and relax on which is very nice, especially at night time (my friend and I had a few beers along with our own music up there one night). The showers do have some warmth to them but the stream gets super weak if you have it even remotely to the warmer side. Wifi went from barely working to not at all, in my bed I was lucky if I could even get a signal. Location wise it’s walking distance to everything you need and want to see in San Miguel.

This hostel has everything a traveller needs, comfortable clean rooms, a communal space where a basic breakfast is provided, helpful staff, plenty of showers and toilet facilities, it is close to the centre, and has SKY tv!

I like the style and the location of the place. Many showers with hot water. A thick blanket for the night. Cool maya matches for cooking. The breakfast is alright. Some staff members are friendly, other less communicative. On the rooftop is no Wifi, because the signal is not strong enough. In the sleeping room is only a wifi available, that has no internet connection frequently. In winter it would be nice, if the staff closes all windows in the dorm around 8pm, so the windows don't let in the cold air from outside (3-7°C). There is no common area, that is completetly inside the building and completetly protected from the cold air outside. On the ceiling of the bathrooms is some mold, which is not good for the health. You need to put the sheets on the bed by yourself.

Great hostel. Clean rooms, comfy bed in the female dorm. Nice rooftop and breakfast. Enjoyed waking up to the neighbours rooster and the church bells. Great location on a quiet street close to Jardin and market.

Affordable place with a pretty good location, right off the historic center. I stayed in a dorm and arrived late, which was not a problem as they have 24 hour reception. I was out in a 8 bed dorm though I had booked a 4 bed one. When I asked to move the guy out me in the very front room, where you could hear every person in and out of the hostel. Luckily people were quiet. The bed was comfortable and I got clean sheets and a pillow case. The breakfast was toast, cornflakes and coffee. Would recommend for a 1-2 night stay if your priority is low price.
