★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Como yo, creo hay varios desconocen la razón de esta cruz, buscando en Internet, me encontré con la reseña publicada por "Elthon García", la cual me gustó y trascribo una parte de ella, la que relata el por que de dicha cruz:
"La historia de la efigie, también conocida como “Cruz de la cerillera” en referencia a la fábrica de fósforos “El Águila” que estuvo cerca de ahí a mediados del siglo pasado, según información del Cronista de la Ciudad, Alejandro Contla Carmona, se remonta hacia finales del siglo XIX, cuando en la década de los 80 de ese siglo, vivía en Texcoco Ruperto Jaspeado, quien fue alcalde de la ciudad en tres ocasiones, portentoso empresario y amigo cercano de Porfirio Díaz.
Al pertenecer a la clase alta, conservadora y católica texcocana, las aspiraciones para con sus hijos eran grandes y por ello prohibió la relación de un hijo con una joven de origen humilde, en consecuencia éste se quitó la vida.
Por el hecho de haber pecado al morir de esa forma, su padre consideró esta falla a las creencias católicas suficiente para que no fuera enterrado en un cementerio, sino que a petición de su madre, le fue construido un “corral falso” con una cruz, para señalar el lugar donde fueron colocados sus restos.
Así pues, con el paso de los años y el cobijo de los lugareños, la cruz ha adquirido la condición de monumento histórico y símbolo del Barrio de la Conchita e, incluso, de Texcoco."
