★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My wife and I were blown away by this place! The rooms are so nice and modern. The grounds are great! The people are awesome!
The good: Very modern, clean, gorgeous rooms. Solid amenities. The staff is extremely attentive and helpful. Parking is free. And, I don't know if this is for all the guests or just for us, but we got free breakfast every morning. There was a hot tub, incense, salt, etc in our room to enjoy.
Neutral: This place is quite north of the city. If you want to go into Merida proper you have to take a taxi or Uber. Traffic can be dense so budget for at least 25 min rides... also budget time or schedule in advance pickup as wait times can be from 3-20 mins depending on availability. On the brightside it is only about 20 mins to Progresso beach straight shot. The food was good, not amazing... but definitely solid.
Things to consider: I didn't want to say bad because literally nothing was bad, but I know when I'm reading comments I'm looking for specific things that may sway me one way or the other. The Tv was very nice and big... the problem we ran into is it runs on Chromecast... you have to stream everything from a phone or computer. No problem for us, but if you are less tech savy you may get frustrated. I'm sure the staff could assist. Along those lines, most of America's streaming services limit things in Mexico, so Hulu and channel specific apps don't work, but HBO NETFLIX YouTube all worked fine. Also, The walkways are all cobblestone... very easy to trip. SImilarly, there were steps in the room... which if you aren't paying attention you can forget and trip... just an FYI if you have issues with depth perception or walking. Lastly, the grounds are tucked away in the middle of a very active neighborhood. Everyone we encountered was very nice, kids and dogs out playing... but there is really no reason to walk outside of the Hacienda except for a very solid restaurant and Merida's best microbrewery about an 18 min walk through the neighborhood. Everything felt safe.
Lastly, and I debated on mentioning it... but if you are planning a trip for the next month or so there is major construction going on outside of the property. We were warned about it during check-in and told if it was too much they'd move our room. It was loud starting at around 8:30 am but they were usually done promptly at 5. As I said, they can't control it, and it is definitely temporary but just an FYI.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ When we arrived there was no electricity and no light in the entire hotel. Due to an earlier thunderstorm. And their power plant was out of order too. There wasn’t running water either so could not wash our hands nor take a shower after a day spent at the beach. Plus there was a wedding event and we could not have access to the bar nor restaurant. So could not enjoy any facilities on the late afternoon early evening. Could not stay in the room either as very dark even with candles. So we took the car to find a restaurant for dinner. When we went for breakfast at 8am, the bar and restaurant was still being organized from the wedding event the day before. Breakfast service was slow. We were not offered anything to compensate for all the bad events. Ah yes! If we wanted to bathe, we could use the pool (when there was no light in the late pm early evening) ! From a hotel of this standard, one would expect they would have told me during our correspondence prior to arriving that there was a private event and we would not have access to the restaurant or bar. Poor customer relationship management!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The hotel is easy to find following GPS. It is located in a suburb next to Merida, a car or taxis are must if you need to get in/out as there almost is nothing around.
The hotel facilities are amazingly charming, you can immediately feel the luxury of finishing and feel warm as soon as you cross the gate, then step into the lobby.
We have booked a Kij Junior Suite and were immediately offered an upgrade to Sayab Master Suite, which is quite of a difference as there are other room classes between the two. Very nice of them.
The suite was as spotless as everything else in the hacienda, with modern luxurious finishes… too good to be true.. indeed… as the room was facing a construction site (within the premises of the hacienda, most likely an extension) and that drilling and machines noises countinued even after sunset… we were far from the hacienda experience we were expecting.. the gardens and exteriors are limited due to the construction and will be even less important once the new rooms(?) will be built.. a pity that might turn it into just another luxury hotel.
The restaurant experience was a mixed one as the waiters were cold and failed explaining dishes, the food was average giving it’s price. Also note that on the two nights we were there, the restaurant was hosting corporate dinners, so a bit loudy, but ok. The breakfast was okay, but confusing information were provided as 1st morning when we asked to add the note to the room (it wasn’t included in the room price we paid), the waiter insisted it was included, we even asked him to verify and he confirmed. On the 2nd morning, it was no longer included, so quite confusing here…
We also booked a romantic dinner next to the outdoor chapel, but unfortunately weather was too bad, with lot of rain, which obviously isn’t hotel responsibility. The restaurant staff set up a romantic dinner at what seemed to be a meeting room (or a manager office).. to be honest this completely destroyed the whole experience. We would’ve preferred they apologize (which we would’ve understood, totally not their fault) or have a nice table at their restaurant rather then being behind closed door.
Anyway, they charged full price for the scene even though it’s clearly not the same experience.
I was expecting a lot from our stay at Hacienda Xcanatun during our Yuctan trip.. I have to say the hotel has lot of potential, and lot of charm, but is beeing destroyed with the extension, and with poor attention to guests (it was the coldest personnel we face in 2 weeks in Mexico), I can relate some examples :
When we asked recommendations of things to do in Merida, they handed us a 50ish pages magazine (loaded with ads) asking us to read it first.. seriously?
When we ordered from room service, the plates weren’t collected, as consequence the coatis spread the leftovers all accross the corridors.
So yea it can be a cool stay (confortable but noisy), but they need to be more caring about attention to guests (not just by offering upgrades, but by being more human)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hacienda Xcanatun is a hidden gem. It was recently renovated and the rooms and overall property are exceptional. The rooms are very well equipped, well appointed, and large. The common areas are very well kept and the garden is beautiful.
The manager and the staff in general are very attentive, polite and helpful. They definitely made the whole experience even better.
Despite a hurricane passing by during our stay, the hotel management made considerable arrangements to ensure the safety of the guests and that we never lacked electricity.
The only downside of the whole experience regarded the food options at the restaurant which we thought were unimaginative. Despite this, we still very much enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wonderfully maintained historical hotel with just the good mix of charm and luxury. The hotel is located just outside Merida which makes it a perfect choice to discover the Uxmal ruins or see the flamingos and mangrove in Celestùn. Very helpful staff which gave us good avdice on dining locations in Merida (try Picheta's rooftop for a drink, el Museo de la Gastronomia Yucateca for dinner). Food was also excellent at the hotel.
Worth noting that we were there on our honeymoon and were upgraded to the best suite available.
Visited in August 2021 for 3 nights.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Went a few nights ago for a special birthday meal. Mojito was served with coke and about 50 mint leaves. Sent it back and was still charged for it. Ordered fillet medium. It was served blue, rookie cook mistake. Couldn't eat it. Small portions all around. Birthday girl ordered pasta that tasted like it came from a can. Considering we have been there many times I will not return, something is wrong here these days. Very disappointing experience. Thank you for the response Eva, but after reading other recent reviews I would not chance wasting another important date at your restaurant or the money. I agree with others that the food and service has fallen to the floor and hope others go elsewhere for their special event.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ when we checked into this hacienda for 5 nights, we were absolutely thrilled. Very nice suite, well appointed room and spectacular garden. The next morning was a rude awakening. At 8.00 AM the nearby construction work, bulldozers, drilling etc. started. When we complained at the reception, they simply said nothing, nor offered anything. We realize the hotel is very annoyed by these construction works, all the rooms suffer from it, but they they could have been apologetic, offered a free cocktail or something. Definitely not up to the service of a 5 star hacienda they pretend to be, and not up to Banyan Tree standards.
On the restaurant service, we can be quick, it is very slow, 20 min wait between a margarita order and its delivery, then 35 min wait for the food.
We ordered a few times for delivery to our terrace. They managed to serve us a yoghourt and granola (nothing else on the order) with a fork. Another time our breakfast order was only half delivered. Another time the order was delivered with cutlery but no plates. The staff is very poorly trained, they have no clue how to serve food or how to deal with customers.
Given the lousy service and arrogance of the reception staff in not recognizing the issues mentioned by the customer, I strongly recommend NOT to stay at this hacienda.
Lastly a very positive comment, a compliment really for Salvador, one of the bellboys. He certainly behaves as if he is well trained to provide a 5 star hotel service . Remembering our name, always greeting us, handing us over fresh towels when we casually told him we were going to Progreso beach
