La Madre - 68000 Oaxaca de Juárez

We came here twice -- the first time was 5 stars, the second was 3, so this is an average. The first time, we got the pork and tuna. My boyfriend loved the pork, but I found the tuna to be a bit too acidic. However, the service was great, and we loved the peaceful atmosphere of the terrace on a weeknight. The second time, we got the barbacoa and salmon. The barbacoa wasn't as good as the pork, and the salmon was quite weird -- it was literally seven fritters, a bit of salsa, and nothing else. While I think the portions of meat have always been generous, I'd rather have less protein and a side to help balance the dish. On top of this, the food took nearly 40 minutes and we had to ask for water/refills in the interim. I'd still recommend coming here because the food is good, but I hope La Madre considers adding more variety per dish and something to nibble on while the food is being prepared.

Go here! Gorgeous rooftop cactus vibes, amazing cocktails (I dreamt of Remedio No. 19 with mezcal for days until I went back for more), attentive staff. And the food is great, we loved the sauces that came with the sweet potato fries— delicious. Great music on Saturday nights! Can’t say enough good things about this place!!

First time customer, came in and it was just wonderful! Loved the atmosphere. A must try is the tacos de barbacoa and the ribeye hamburger! Simply delicious!! The only down side is the lighting, our table did not have proper lighting so they had to bring two little candles. I was told to try the chocolate cake but they were out, I will definitely come back for the cake and the delicious food. If you like mezcal, get the 5oz little jar, very cute and convenient for sharing.

dont show up before 9pm… service is slow and they stop taking orders about an hour before closing

Cool rooftop terrace with good jazz groups on Saturday nights - interesting cocktails poured strong - electic food choices - staff are very nice - especially the woman who is front of house who is excellent - highly recommended

Incredible cocktails and the happy hour drink prices (5-7) are such a deal. The food is really tasty and the rooftop is lovely.

The rooftop is beautiful and drinks were delicious! We ordered food but they out of several things we wanted. Some of what we did order was cold. I felt bad for our server as we seemed to be her only table of the night. I would suggest just drinks on the rooftop and heading elsewhere for food.
