★ ★ ★ ★ ★ So, let's divide the experience into three main categories:
- Ambiance : great atmosphere, attention and overall mood of the place.
- drinks and cocktails: outstanding (definitely try "El viajero"). They have this 2x1 deal going on, however you can't mix and match, your two drinks must be identical (weird and inconvenient if you want to sample more of the menu).
- food: we ordered pollo con mole and tuna tacos. The mole was great, but the tacos relied heavily on the salsa, without it they were pretty tasteless.
Conclusion: overall a good place, and certainly a great find if you are in Guanajuato, but don't expect to have your word changed by the dishes.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La cantina de la cueva was so unbelievably horrible! Occupation was excessively over safety limit. You could not walk or dance at all. If you want to order a drink you have to order at the register, extremely inconvenient as a line of 100 people is constant. Dj's are decent. Expect the place to be heavy with WEED smoke. Security is a JOKE, they searched me and my girlfriend, found nothing. They allowed us in. We smoked a clove cigarette. They kicked me out and claimed i was smoking weed, which was false. We tried to show them and they refused to even assess the situation. Pretty sure they kicked me out because i was white. Highly do not recommend unless you are ok with being profiled by race.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Service was excellent. Loved the outdoor like decor and greenery. All the food was very good but my filet wasn't the most tender. Definitely will come back and try something else. My colleagues got the tuna tacos and he said they were super delicious!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We learned about this place by chance. We had no idea it was related to Casa Valadéz. (Which we have also dined in.) I must say, both restaurants are amazing. Each of my family members ordered something different and we were all very pleased with the serving portion, the taste and the quality of the food. The beverages were incredible. Great service, great environment. Overall, just a great place to dine. Next time we visit Guanajuato, we will definitely be going back to La Virgen de la Cueva. Wonderful Mexican gourmet food.
