La Vita Bella - 45820 San Juan Cosalá

Fantastic location, great atmosphere, sloppy service, mediocre food Easily boasting the best views of any restaurant in the area, La Vita Bella is let down colossally by disorganized, inefficient service and mediocre, overpriced food. I checked this place out as part of a group of five. Drinks orders took over ten minutes to be taken, despite the restaurant not being in the least bit busy, and we actually had to flag down a waiter twenty minutes later to take our food order... at which point he took orders from two of us before wandering off. We had to flag him down a second time to take the other three orders. The meals then arrived in stages, with ten minutes between the first two servings and the last three. And while the presentation was excellent, the Argentinean beef was tough as shoe leather. It's a shame, because this place could be utterly spectacular. Pro-Tip: Come here for a pre-dinner cocktail. Enjoy the antmosphere and views, and then go eat at one of the many superior restaurants in the area.

Excellent! Great food and drinks. Great service. And AMAZING views! Sunset over the lake was just beautiful! Highly recommended!

Went there for our anniversary. What a beautiful setting. We ordered their wine and cheese plate and a side of calamari. The wine was excellent and the cheese plate was good. The calamari was a bit over cooked but still tasty. But what truly disappointed us was the poor service. A restaurant this nice should have better service. Maybe a management issue.

Excellent service by an experienced wait staff. Nice menu with a good selection from pizzas to pasta, entradas, and platos fuertes including steaks, fish, and chicken. They also offered a few daily specials. The baked provoleta topped with pepperonata was a delicious starter, and our salmon and robalo plates were generous portions, cooked perfectly and accompanied by vegetable sides that enhanced the fishes. Small yeast rolls with aioli also were offered. And then there's the beautiful view! Perfect venue for that special dinner.

Great cuisine with delicious food with one of the best scenic views of the beautiful Chapala Lake. A must if you happen to be in the Raquet Club area (San Juan Cosala). Nice hotel rooms and SPA available for a weekend getaway.

I will start with the good things: room was clean and neat, and the room cleaning service was great. My room has a great view to the lake. Bed was comfortable. The restaurant has a nice view, decent menu and food quality, nothing special. Now I will explain my score and I will start with the worst: the water (sink, shower / bathtub); there is only one water temperature here and it is HELLISH HOT. It is absolutely ridiculous... we were not able to take a shower because we got burnt. When we asked an explanation, we were told the whole hotel has only a single water source and it is geothermal water. They have no mechanisms to cool it. Paying USD 200 for an hotel in which you cannot take a shower is absurd. Bonus: for USD 200 a night I was expecting: air conditioner, hair dryer, iron, safe box. Instead I got: ceiling fan insufficient for the room, a broken floor fan in the closet, a broken safe box (could not be opened), no hair dryer and no iron in the room. Bottom line: stay away from this hotel. I am giving it two stars only because the restaurant is decent. The problems of the room are an absolute deal breaker. I will never return.

Very nice setting, high up overlooking beautiful Lake Chapalla. Sadly, that's where the positive experience ends. Service was horrible: very slow, forgot to bring stuff that was asked for, and incredibly hard to get their attention. Food was nothing special and was not cooked to specification. Fish brought raw in the middle despite asking for it to be cooked well done. Pointed this out and they took it back to the kitchen not to be seen again for over 20 minutes, meanwhile the rest of the party finished their meals... then when it was finally brought back, it still was not fully cooked. Staff was completely unsure what to do. Another person in our party had the chicken casserole. The chicken was tough and some of the vegetables were so overdone and charred that they couldn't be eaten. Based on the quality of the food (even without the issue of the fish being way undercooked), it is way overpriced for what you get. Also important to note that taxes are not included in the price shown on the menu, unlike practically everywhere else. Overall: would not recommend. There are so many better places to dine. The view does not make up for the poor service and overpriced dismal food. Save your money and go elsewhere.
