Welcome to Lake Chapala Farmers Market!

Located in West Ajijic at Salón La Huerta, every Tuesday since 2010, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm.

March 2021 marked the 11th Anniversary of the Lake Chapala Farmers Market!  In celebration we have created a calendar of events that is sure to delight your palate.

On 2020, our 10th anniversary celebrations came to a halt when Covid-19 hit our area. We have been the ONLY farmers market able to remain open every single week in México in spite of the pandemic. This is in part because we have followed the strict Covid-19 protocols* set forth by the government and because we have a very special community here at Lakeside! Something worth celebrating!  We have been knitting this community together and we are SO GRATEFUL for your continuous support!

During this past year our mission statements became stronger than ever:

“To provide locally-grown organic produce to our community”.

“To provide high quality nutritional food to our community”.

“To connect local producers directly to consumers”.

Why Lake Chapala Farmers Market?

It’s a celebration of local food culture!

At LCFM you get to know those of us who cultivate and make your food. You can find fresh local produce, artisan food created locally and many regional unique entrepreneurial projects that share our mission and values with a good selection of gluten free, keto, and vegan options.

LCFM offers:

  • Fresh Produce & Food: Produce comes directly from nearby farms, so you get food at its peak and prepared food is cooked specifically for our market. Buy directly from organic farmers.
  • Less Waste: Buying directly from farmers and producers helps prevent waste in the delivery process and carbon footprint. The fewer people handling the product and the shorter distance it travels, the less likely produce is discarded along the way.
  • More Taste: You can get the whole vegetables — carrots and beets with their tops, flavorful greens and juicy tomatoes!
  • Real Ingredients: Know your food and how it is made! Products at LCFM do not contain high fructose corn sugar, bleached white sugars, MSG (monosodium glutamate).
  • Natural Cosmetics & Herbal Medicine: Paraben Free, chemical free, locally made, infused or distilled.
  • Mexican folklore clothing: Artisan and local clothes made by indigenous communities around México, fine textiles and embroider work.

Do you know that ALL the farms and kitchens at our farmers market are carefully reviewed and vetted by our committee to bring the highest quality of food to you? We have a rigorous entry process.  See here.

We are non-profit.

A brief history
LCFM started with 4 producers and 37 customers on a Tuesday morning of March 2010 in the yard of Carol Kindschi, in West Ajijic from a desire to buy organic produce in the area. They started to make calls to local farmers with organic practices, neighbors and friends, and the rest is history!
11 years later, LCFM has 64 vendors and offers regional produce, prepared food, natural cosmetic, homeopathic medicine and so much more!
We are grateful to our founding members: Joshanna Bush, Marya Fischel, Enaj L’Hommedieu, Carol Kindschi, Rebecca Lane, and Louraisha Shaw.
Our founders’ vision, love, and hard work to sustain through the years, our beloved farmers market, will remain their legacy and gift to this community!
As of Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2020, our farmers market is entirely vendor led, which when facing the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic was a huge advantage to many other farmers market.
We have been the only farmers market to remain open every single week since the pandemic started in our state -March 24th, 2020 (and we venture on saying maybe every else, as well!).

Great covid measures, great quality produce and caring people. I was actually approached by an organizer who noticed that I was having trouble walking and she explained that I didn't need to queue, there is a quicker way for me. How beautiful everyone is.

A unique lakeside experience. Crowded bustling indoor market. Expat oriented, lots of prepared food to take home. Home made bread, drinks. Mostly English speaking.

There is one lady I go there for occasionally because she has the best pot pies and hand pies, otherwise I find the prices too high. I can find the rest of the items on offer for way better prices at the Wednesday market or elsewhere.

Farmers Market with quality everything: veggies galore, fruit, meat, bread, cookies, pies, pizzas, soups, candles, wines, crafts, and healing items. Hot food is available in the corner and more items for sale on the street. Take someone, some cash & some time. Enjoy.

Beautiful organic market with high-quality products and large choice – vegetables, fruit, dairy, seeds, meat, eggs, prepared dishes, cosmetics and a lot more. Every time we're in Chapala, Ajijic or close we drop in and do our weekly grocery shopping there. Prices are above average, but still affordable.
