★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I can not imagine a more knowledgeable or personable tour guide than Rene’ Arroyo! He is absolutely THE BEST! He gave us a fascinating tour of Monte Alban one day & took us on a private tour of the Valley another day. We had a visit with Louis, who’s family has been making beautiful natural dye rugs for generations. Louis gave us a demonstration of the dying/weaving process & showed us around his beautiful rug gallery. Rene’ guided us through the famous Tlacolula Sunday Mercado, educating us on all of the regional food products. We toured the Don Agave Mescal distillery & saw the Arbol de Tule, the world’s largest tree. All the while, Rene filled us in on interesting facts & history of the beautiful Oaxacan region & the best local shops/restaurants in Oaxaca City. Every recommendation was excellent.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I was with Jonathan Lockwood on Renés tour. There were actually 6 of us in our group. Our mission was to visit various 'mom & pop' palenques in and around Matatlan. René certainly introduced us to some fabulous palenques.
Every aspect of our day with René (and Javier Garcia or driver) was splendid.
Nice spacious vehicle that was able to accommodate us (and about 200 liters of mezcal!) very comfortably.
Although his tours and expeditions are varied, we can highly recommend René if you are interested in experiencing some 'non big box mezcal' producers.
PS. He was also instrumental in helping us get our mezcal back to San Miguel de Allende. Thanks again René, you are awesome.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ René was recommended to us by a friend and he was absolutely delightful. We booked the Monte Alban, Mezcalerias, and Mitla tours. René calmly and expertly led us through ancient ruins and the intricacy of mezcal. His English was excellent, and he had a knack for dates and numbers that was frankly impressive. We learned so much about the history and culture of Oaxaca! He also gave recommendations of other things to see/do/try in Oaxaca, leading us to the best aguas frescas and nieves we had! We felt very safe with René and Javier as they navigated the streets. Book a tour with René - you won’t regret it!

We had so much fun, we learned a lot and drank a lot of wonderful mezcal. Highly recommend going on this tour! It is memorable and not one you will forget. Just a day full of beautiful landscapes, delicious mezcal and fun!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had a wonderful day with Rene and our driver Manuel. We asked to go to a couple out of the way places and Rene was happy to oblige. I would highly recommend this tour company, they were responsive, on time, very friendly and accommodating to all requests, and had our comfort at the forefront. Was glad to help out post pandemic as well, as they were closed for over a year leaving all out of work. Go spend your money with Las Bugambilias!

We were a group of seven travelling to Oaxaca for a wedding weekend, and Rene made sure all of us were comfortable and got to see the sites that mattered most to us. He is extremely kind, knowledgeable, and knows the lay of the land very well.
