★ ★ ★ ★ ★ While it's possible to drive to this town en route to Canada de la VIrgen and ask around for the Rancheritas' small shop, it's customary to visit as part of a tour, offered most of the year on Friday afternoons by Charlotte Bell or a colleague. You'll see how tunas are harvested (knock them down with a long stick!), and prepared, visit a stone carver, and learn a few words of the native language from an Otomi elder in addition to enjoying simple but delicious ranch lunch. You can also buy the hooked rugs (small as well as larger) at the Saturday Organic market, TOMSA, in San Miguel de Allende.
