Desde la Salamanca española se importó a todo el Virreinato de Nueva España, cobrando especial protagonismo en el actual México. El traje charro es una evolución del traje charro salmantino o traje común de los ganaderos del centro peninsular español.
The charro, in Mexico, is a horseman, someone who practices charrería, considered the national sport of this country.
The charrería is one of the most important Mexican traditions today. The term comes from the Basque language, specifically from the word txar which means common or vulgar, as the inhabitants of the Spanish province of Salamanca were called. From Spanish Salamanca it was imported to the entire Viceroyalty of New Spain, gaining special prominence in present-day Mexico. The charro suit is an evolution of the Salamancan charro suit or common suit of the ranchers of the Spanish peninsular center.
