What is “localization?”

Much like it sounds, “localization” is the process of adapting documents to fit a local culture’s way of speaking.  It’s a very subtle translation process that takes expertise and experience.  Linguaris’ expert linguists are highly adept at localization, with the ability to not only translate the document to the new language, but also to make sure it fits linguistically and culturally to the intended locale.

What is the difference between localization and translation?

Many people get the two confused because they are closely related. Translation is the process of changing the original language of a document to a different language by substituting words in context.  Localization takes this a step further by adapting original content to appeal to local preferences and vernacular.

Why is localization important?

Often times – especially in the healthcare industry – information like manuals, workbooks, product information, etc., is developed before your target market is even determined. When translated straight across, it may not end up reading as you want it to.  Therefore, localization is important when you want your documents to appear “custom-built” for your end-user’s linguistic and cultural background.  Additionally, since Linguaris is focused on the medical translation and the healthcare industry, our Localization expertise gives you an added ability to “speak” to  your target in a language they understand.
