★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Although the food was OK (not bad but certainly nothing special) this "restaurant" is an over-hyped and over-priced "experience" that left both my wife and me still hungry and feeling that we were taken advantage of after a 2-hour "meal." Please excuse the quotes, but I can't emphasize enough what a sham this deal is. Spoiler alert! so you don't have to read the entire review to get to the worst part: the price of the meal (cash only) is $55.00 per person/$110.00 per couple USD not including gratuity or alcoholic beverages - its BYOB. No big deal on the alcohol part for me as I don't drink it, but $110.00 plus tip for this meal was a huge bad deal. Keep in mind you can get a great dinner for 2 at any one of a number of other restaurants on the island (there's actually a really good one just down the block) for about $25.00 USD
This is not a true restaurant in the sense that it operates on a regular basis. The meals are served outdoors, community seating, squeezed around two tables in the rather small courtyard of a 3 room B&B. The owner stages a little get acquainted show for everyone and announces the menu. Although she is careful to take food preferences and allergies into consideration, what is served are extremely small tastings and not full servings. It didn’t appear to me that the ingredients were locally sourced. The first course was a “tiny” Salmon Tartar; a tiny portion of salad with a few tiny little pieces of salmon, served on a tiny 2” square plate with a tiny fork. The entire portion was the equivalent of about a tablespoon. This was followed by a forgettable soup and then a small portion of gnocchi with mushrooms and truffle oil. A very small spring mix and vinaigrette salad was then served. The "main" course, supposed to be the highlight of the evening, was a rather small ramekin of Shepherd's Pie, which consisted of nothing more than some lightly seasoned but rather bland, ground meat topped with mashed potatoes. Although some of the desserts were tasty, the very small "tastes" were unsatisfying.
Again, the food was not "bad" in the sense that it was unpalatable; it was OK, but certainly not great. However, when you have to pay a 4X premium for dinner you should expect something more than a scant and mediocre meal. If you are still intrigued by this place and want to follow the large number of 5 star reviews as we did (we’ve been burned before, too) be forewarned: ask what the menu is before you go and see what arrangements the owner will make in the event you don’t get enough to eat.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Visit Lolo's at least once while on Isla Mujeres. My wife and I have been doing it on our yearly visits since 1998. She is an exquisite chef, a wonderful and sharp personality and very warm. Dinner is served elegantly in her beautiful court yard at a communal table. She has beverages but you can also BYO. Make a reservation. The multi-course prix fixe meal will cover a range of cuisines, all gastronomic delights. This delightful experience is a must!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place was perfect for me and my husband, away from the tourist trap centro but just a 5 mnts taxi ride from the north beach/Centro. The food at Lolo's is very good, always something different with a beautiful presentation. But Lolo and her team are really the highlight. Fun, friendly, energetic, Lolo and Hanna are always ready to serve you and make you feel like you are home . If you come to Isla mujeres stay at Lolo's place, you will not regret it. If not make a reservation to one of her dinners she host, you will be glad you did.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lolo Lorena is a presence! What an amazing meal and lovely people. You must get a reservation, show up at 7:45 sharp. An amazing 7 course meal will be served to you and everyone else seated for dinner all around a courtyard. We met lovely people and shared a meal that stood up to our expectations of great food from around the world and Portland, OR where we live. I have some food restrictions and she was happy to accommodate!
Highly recommend!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lolo is a professional Chef. She doesn't run a restaurant, although she has a Gourmet kitchen. In order for her to perform, you have to make a reservation a day in advance. It's worth every pesos. Her adorable niece Hanna with a million dollar smile helps her prepare everything. They know where fishermen return with the catch, so they get everything fresh for a bargain and Lolo turns it into an amazing dinner party for you and your loved ones.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Our experience here was worse than terrible. Worst I've ever experienced beginning with the minute we walked in. We were expecting fine dining (given the price point of $70 usd per person). We walked in to a backyard setting. There were two tables and we were sat on concrete blocks with soggy cushions and no leg room. Lolo came in from a back gate and introduced herself to the ten guests, announced the menu, and vaguely described the courses. She went on to say that
2-3 of them i quote will include "blah blah blah" as ingredients in the dishes. Each dish was average but would be considered as tasting portions. Lets just say our group of 10 left hungry after a sitting four hours for dinner when One of the courses was a literal carrot with dried peas. UNIMPRESSED! Not only that, a heavy terracotta roof tile fell from the above pergola during the meal and broke, narrowly hitting me in the head. All 10 guests were horrified and it was MY head. At the end of the meal, Lolo finally reappeared wearing a sarong, soaking wet, asking for payments. We were never offered a formal check or receipt and she demanded cash only. (One of our friends inquired about digital currency options and was told it would be an upcharge). I handed her $200 for my bf and I's $140 bill and asked for change. Lola rolled her eyes asking how much change and i said $30. She said she was all out of 10$, handed me $20 and then leaned in for a hug (jokingly stating shes not sweaty but now we're both dripping with chlorine from pool water. Thanks Lola . Good luck on your back stroke ! We wont be back .
P..S. im including my cash app for my leftover change.... $sislam
