Never judge a book by its cover...... Seating is not very nice, but the mojitos!!! And of course the guacamole, the ceviche, and the different tuna dishes we had. We're coming back, gracias!

Went here because of the name. Loved all the aguachiles. Service was great. Place was super clean. Favorite aguachile was the red and the standout dish was the tuna in cucumber cups. The pulpit Rey was delicious also.

Top tostadas, top mezcalito maracuya, top camarones fritos just the breaded fish filet was lacking a bit in taste. Prices are moderate compared to other places of this quality.

Great local restaurant. If you’re looking for a more budget friendly eat, this is your place. The restaurant is clean, the food is very fresh/good, and the service was very welcoming. Great choice.

We came here for dinner based on great reviews, but we left with mixed feelings. My boyfriend loved his shrimp tacos, but my shrimp aguachiles was too salty, it was impossible to eat. I order black sauce based on soy sauce since i don’t like other spicy sauces, but it was just too salty. On the other hand, they have pretty good mojito deal, 230 pesos for 1l maracuya mojito!

We ordered several dishes to share, everything was wonderful! The service was the best we’ve had in Tulum, great prices for large portions of fresh seafood and wonderful drinks! I would eat here every day if I could. We had the crispy squid, aguachiles, pacific tiradito, ceviche, and guacamole, it was all fantastic!

I wish I could give this place negative stars. Really disappointed. I have eaten food from all over playa and loved most of it but I actually thought I might be sick from this seafood. The fish ceviche was fishy and putrid tasting. The fish, shrimp and octopus tasted like they had been poured out of a bag onto our plate, without being washed let alone marinated or seasoned. All the seafood had a slimy feel and pungent smell that was unsurprisingly matched by the taste. My margarita on the rocks was served blended (still the best part of my meal). The fried tuna was chewy and completely over cooked as well as entirely unseasoned, as if they thought that dropping cubes of three day old tuna into hot dirty fry oil would be all the flavor they needed. The wait staff was pushy and asked how the food was repeatedly until I said it was good. He then was pushy about our tip amount and said I could not tip less that 10%. When I said that I would not leave a tip at all in that case he said that yes 5% was ok. So the food was horrendous but maybe the atmosphere made up for it? No. Music was blasting so loud you could hardly hear the person across the table from you, which for us was only a 2 person table so our voices didn’t need to carry very far. This was by far the worst food I have eaten in Playa del Carmen or Mexico in general. Do yourself a favor and go to Los Hijas de Tostadas if you want good fresh seafood for a better price.

This place is a cult classic, and for a reason. Amazing food, good service, big portions and reasonable (but not cheap) prices. Go for any of the tostadas, the wonderful tuna one is particularly famous. A round of drinks, lunch and tip was about $1700 (£65).
